Future of KGHP/Gig Harbor in doubt

Why not folks who are both? :) I agree that there needs to be more tech-savvy, but also a better focus on content programming.

Yes, yes, I know "voice tracking" is "evil", but it is today's reality of radio. Most small stations simply don't have the staff budget nor the needed number of volunteer DJs to have consistently live content. Combine this with the stratospheric rise of podcasting and very affordable at-home equipment, and it's a no-brainer to have volunteers produce shows from home on their own schedule. KAOS has been doing this heavily since the pandemic, and I'd much rather listen to a voice-tracked show curated by a decent DJ rather than random automation. (If only KAOS would improve their automation when they're not VTing shows...)

Commercial stations cant legally accept volunteers.. unless theyre getting college credit or high school credit .. its a violation of labor laws, really

1)The number of people I've known over the past 60 years that have great on-air talent and also would qualify as highly-skilled techs can be counted on my fingers. 2)There is no demand for live on-air personalities. 3) there are numerous very talented people in broadcasting that are offloaded every year and have to turn to voice tracking for multiple radio stations just to earn a living. Even the major syndicators
(WWO, iHeart, etc) are relying on voice-tracking more and more. Many of us want to be great morning jocks at major stations, but the supply is much higher than the demand. Even news staffs are a dying breed. Due to economics of the industry, many broadcasters are using outside sources for local news. And we need to remind ourselves that it isn't just that broadcasting plays a smaller role today than it did 10-20-30 years ago, but also the old rules of thumb regarding radio advertising budgets based on retail sales no longer apply.
