Future of KOOL 95.7/105.3

One of two things will happen to this outmoded station when regular programming returns in the next few days:

1. There will be a new 25-49 format immediately, or

2. Oldies will be back temporarily, but only till january when the contracts of the pitiful dinosaur morning "entertainers" are up.

You can bet that Entercom will dump oldies and their tired staff as soon as possible, but no later than January.

Too many other appealing formats out there to still go after the 55-99 audience.

Trust me on this one.

Oldies won't return 'cause they moved BAYOU to this frequency. KOOL is on 105.3....

KOOL is NOT on 105.3. 105.3 is a simulcast of WWL 870 and the RDS tag on 105.3 says "WKBU 105.3 EMERGENCY INFORMATION"

Man... now that WAS deep Eye In The SKY! Obviously you don't see Phil Hoover on a day to day basis like I do.) WOW... you are correct... 105.3 is broadcasting URBNO... for right now. They are in the process of moving songs from one computer to another. 105.3 is also having transmitter issues right now, so their not in a hurry to get music back onto that station right now. As far as KOOL being put on 105.3... that's the plan as of RIGHT NOW, but it's not set in stone. It's true,... it may change. Who knows. It may turn country!

Now, I have to agree with Oldiesstation. I've met and worked with Bob Mitchell and Vince Marinello (Bob & Vinnie) in the past. They are two of the most nicest gentleman that anyone could work with. Why bash them?! Yes, their morning show might be a little dry for some, but duh... that's the point. It's "good, clean fun" as they say! You can put it on with the kids in the car and you won't hear them say offensive things. That's all....

Dear "Oldies Station",

First of all, you would probably HAVE to be Bob Mitchell because nobody else on this board knows his history or CARES about it. ***WHO*** on this board knows that he started here in 1965 but ***HIM*** ?? He is a relic and forgotten radio curiousity from long ago, who only looms large in his own head. "Retirement"? He should have been put out to pasture 15 years ago.

So, you want me to share a credential? In spite of whoever you allegedly are blowing Bob Mitchell's horn, let me tell you a few things.

Bob Mitchell hired me in the 70's at WTIX and in the time I worked with him I grew disgusted with radio. Mel Delatte, Sammy Alfano, John Provenzano ... EVERYONE knew the games that were being played. Should I go into further detail on that and other interesting things? I am still in radio in New Orleans and I know a lot about a lot of people...both past and present. Most of them I respect, and some I don't because I know them for what they really are.

As far as a format change, be it Jack or whatever, watch my prediction between now and January. And if you read back, butthead, I never specified that JACK would be on 95.7.

"Oldies Station" & "Sky in the Sky333"...

This is some interesting reading, getting some good history on who was where, back in the heyday of the 70's. Also, who claims who they aren't. Did some digging from a person who was around during those great AM wars between TIX & NOE. He loved those interesting names brought up like Delatte, Alfano, and Provenzano. Shady record folks to say the least. He gives 1-2 odds, "Oldies Station" IS the "Real Robert Mitchell". Who, but himself, would remember exact year Mitchell started forty years ago, tout that he was an excellent program director and state he is great person. Wouldn't get a quote like that from Forrest. Can't be folks like Ted Green, Mark Summers, Skinny Tommy Chaney, Todd Bauer, the late Michael Green, Terry Young and others. They have real lives and wouldn't waste their time having to blow smoke up their own butts. Who cares about Mitchell's "so called" impressive rating (weak at best) and exact year of 1965 he started at TIX but he "Real Robert" himself. DO us all of favor and retire! The pasture is running out of grass to eat, you old cow.

Bottom line, Entercon & Clear Channel, get back to business. Time to move on with this URBNO. It's tiresome. Fix your sticks and get back to what you do best, if you can call it that. Getting old hearing Garland Robinette with the hip-hop jocks who have no clue how to do talk radio. Entertain what audience you have left.

It's obvious who Entercom considers their "cash cow", WWL. Followed by Walton & Johnson. Only Vince Marnello has been heard on WWL during the hurricane coverage. Not a peep out of the rest of the KOOL staff. Make you wonder where they stand in the corporate food chain. If they were making a killing money wise and had these "so called" killer ratings, where are they? True, KOOL had respectable (nowhere near great) ratings but were held up by other dayparts other than mornings. Go back and look at the books. They have been on the decline since Ed Munez sold them in the mid 90's. Andy Holt makes Munez look like programming genius. No great suprise, seeing out-of-town corporate brains have no clue about this market and the folks they try to program to.

Hope the market gets back to normal soon. But until then, let me slide my white shrimp boots on cause the "BS" is getting deeper than the crap the two hurricanes left behind!

Best of luck down there!

This sure is entertaining! I was hired by Mitchell in 1989 for Lite 105 then Ed put Blair and me on Kool as the original Kool Wake-Up Club. Blair got moved out, Mitchell got moved in. I lasted until 1997 when I was told to go play elsewhere. I have my theories on why that trigger was pulled and who was holding the gun but that's for another day and time.

No love lost between Bob and me. I was warned by everyone who had worked for him from Day One to watch my back. For years I defended him saying "well, I've never seen that side of him so I'll not comment". I think now that I've seen "that side". 'Nuff said.

Unafraid to sign my name...

> Well unknown disc jockey, for obvious reasons, you are wrong.i am not Bob Mitchell, my name is Ray Fisher, worked at tix from 1967-70, been knowing bob since 1962,always treated me great and was fun to work with..and that was back when radio was alot more fun than now..i have put on and sold 3 fm's and now i just take it easy,, because i was smart enough to figure out being a jock was not where it's at...When you are a major market PD you always have folks talking behind your back.and thinking they can do better than you..but i still hold to my conviction that Bob is a good person and has helped lots of radio people, NEVER said he was perfect...and yes i loved Ted green and all those old TIX Jocks, they were fun to be around...wish i knew where he was, i'd like to call him...

Mr. Fisher,

Kudos to you for defending a co-worker. Most of them are trying to stab you in the back. Wasn't aware you were a personal friend and worked with Mr. Mitchell. You're right about radio back then. It was fun to listen as well but don't recall ever hearing you on the air. Growing up, I can recall John Reed, Skip Broussard, Buzz Bennett, Bob Walker and Jim Swiller (think he was the news guy, name sticks in my head). Ray Fisher doesn't ring a bell. By buying and sell FM's (smart move), I'm guessing you were on the administrative side of radio? The last Ted Green was heard of was in 1974. He was in Miami at WQAM, a Storz property. But you should know that, if you were in that wonderful "Mitchell circle".

Hold your convinctions and memories close to you heart because you obviously had nothing Mitchell was interested in. Otherwise, you'd been singing a different song. Check out the post from the Fatman. I worked at Lite 105 in the 80's before him and saw TRUE side of Mitchell. "Yeah pal", you were a mere short timer back in the 60's. You didn't get a chance to see the roach's true colors...the "REAL" Robert Mitchell. Now, had he known you were dealing with the selling of FM properties, he would have NEVER lost contact with you. Lucky you.

Hope you and the gulf coast, are getting back to normal after the storms. Heard the Real Robert lost his home and his Porsche. Hard to replace a house record companies built.

"When you are a major market PD you always have folks talking behind your back, and thinking they can do better than you."

Well, I hear anyone could do better than the PD's they have on many of the stations in New Orleans. Especially is seeing what you're about to read. Corporate radio... Whatta way to go! (Yeah right, whatever!) I agree... they have no clue about the city, it's listeners, or it's heritage.

I was scanning the dial, tring to get stations in New Orleans. I heard one station tout in a liner "the difference between you and us is... we still have a roof!" Was that supposed to be funny?! Ooh, if I could only remember what station. No kidding! Must'a been corporate's idea of a small joke, huh? I'm sure that don't help the people over there in that area.

> first i want to apologize if i was too harsh. i worked overnite at tix and all the other shifts during other jocks vacations and on sunday 3-7p right behind Ted Green, boy what a hoot he was,,.while i was getting my marketing and finance degree..maybe there is a side of bob i never saw, but he always treated me very kindly,, although i know at tix there was always things going on behind peoples backs..like when Broussard was trying to get Mitchell's job and skip left and went to Knoxville, he is a great person and awesome air talent..well HECK i guess radio never changes when you think about it...really good people bust their ass and it gets them nowhere..but i realized ownership was for me and i always took care of my employees, any of them would tell you that.once again accept my apology for being crass...best to you Ray Fisher..

when new orleans gets back to normal it will have an oldies station..tix fm...weak signal and poor programming..but it is oldies..as for 105.3 i just dont see kool coming back. maybe oldies of some type but i just dont see kool..classic hits maybe..but i am not at entercom and dont know what they are doing. kool really died back several years ago when it was sold to entercom and got the shrunken playlist. it use to be a fun station back about 10 years ago. when they played all oldies..not classic hit. classic rock and oldies..every time i turned it on lately i heard bto or the eagles..not exactly chubby checker and fats domino..

That's funny! You should have seen him "perform" for her when she would join us in the morning. Sad.
