Future of radio...no jocks?

Does anyone other than me foresee a future where stations will go the way of the "Ben" or "Jack" formats or internet radio in general and go jockless? I think that cost considerations will come into play sooner than later and more companies will look at that bottom line, and see how much more money they can make by these job reductions. We all have a jock or two or three that will live on in memories forever, for both positive or negative reasons, but I feel that we are counting down the days to the end of the radio personality.

Well....there's always Satellite radio, it worked for Opie & Anthony.
their antics got them fired from their terrestrial radio company....then after a vacation they get hired by XM and voila, instant radio career. Howard is about to make a move. I guess you have only to look at what you do on-air, and reinvent yourself somehow. I know BEn-FM is jockless, but are each of the JACK-FM knockoffs in jukebox mode?

AFAIK, most, if not all, the Jack types are jockless. Sunny is jockless overnights and weekends. The "live" jocks actually voicetrack their shifts, except for maybe the morning show and the love songs dedication program.

But, I also feel the jocks are soon to be a thing of the past...why? Those in the audience whose parents grew up with the "air talent/personality" of the heyday of Top 40. As a revolution, you have those which shout at their radios everytime the DJ keys his mike "shut up and play the music". Hence, you get Jack and Otto (Mation, that is).
______________
FOX News Alert: YOU SUCK!!! Ya like apples?

You are all acting like the JACK format is going to flourish and prosper for years and years. Keep in mind, it's still in "beta-mode". Remember Jammin Oldies? All-80's? Both had the same hype in the beginning. Wait and see, just like TPTB who want to see if this particular format needs personality added to it.

As long as people have a job and a long commute...there will always be at least drive time announcers. If gas climbs up to $5 a gallon and tele-commute becomes enforced.....then will all listen to jockless or satellite radio. That's your Barron's report of the day.

When I was considering a career in radio around 1974, more than one engineer told me, without the others knowing, that I should consider something else. Perhaps a broadcast engineer career. They told me that in "ten years" radio will be automated and most of the on air deejay jobs will be run by a machine.

Well, they were wrong because it took about thirty years, but now it is happening and it pays more to be a waiter than a deejay. (I am not a waiter either).
