Anybody know the future of Turner South? Will it be FSN South 2 or FSN Atlanta, and what does that do for Braves Territorial Rights, say, here in Nashville?
______________

No idea what they're going to call it, but what my (admittedly limited) sources indicated to me _prior_ to the sale being announced leads me to expect that we'll see a FSN South split something like this:
TurnerSouth becomes FSN South (GA, TN, MS, AL)
Current FSN South becomes FSN Carolina(s) (NC, SC)

May be right, may be wrong, but that's what I expect.

I've always thought the Carolinas needed their own FSN. The sports landscape over there is so different from the rest of the South. (i.e. they are in basketball country, we are in football country)
______________

You have a point; about the only team we share with you in fan
interest is the Braves. NFL: we have the Panthers, you have the
Falcons (but Tennessee has the Titans and Mississippi, the Saints);
NBA: we have the Bobcats, you have the Hawks; NHL: Hurricanes for us,
Thrashers (or Predators) for you. And we follow the ACC rather than
the SEC in both football and basketball. One problem, though, is that
South Carolina is an SEC school; would you deprive USC fans of conference
games?

As I'm writing this they're 23 games out of first place.
Or did they change their name and I never found out about it?

Bob,

The Braves territoy isn't set by a network, it is set by MLB. The Braves territory won't change. They claim the entire state of Tennessee for regional tv purposes. The questions is will Comcast see fit to ever add whatever FOX calls Turner South.

FSN South is still going to show 25 Braves games in 2006. In Middle Tennessee, FSN South will also show 60 or so Reds games this year. They are going to have 78 Cards games in West Tennessee, to go along with the 25 Braves games.

Sounds like the Turner South games will stay on Turner South in 2006. It should have 55 or so games. I kind of think the channel will be renamed SportSouth. They did something similar in So Cal. FSN West 2 was renamed Prime Ticket.

I think the entire region will continue to get both FSN channels, I don't think it will be split up like the other respones say.

I consider myself to be a HUGE sports fan and an avid ESPN watcher, but I swear, I did not know until like two weeks ago that my own home state of Tennessee had an NBA team. Aparantly, the Grizzlies moved to Memphis from Vancouver like five years ago. I never knew until I asked the guy in Champs the other day why they had so many Vancouver jerseys. I felt like such a dumbass.

Maybe NC is...definately not SC.

And on a non-sport note...

...any chance that Time Warner/Turner might relaunch Turner South without the sports programming? I had heard they had been looking into a "national" version of the network to put on DirecTV/Dish.

Yes, I liked a good bit of the non-sport programming.
______________

That's a good idea, and I'm all for it as long as my Braves continue to be shown on the rebranded FSN Carolina, otherwise I would not be a happy camper.

Not to worry; the Braves are quite popular in the Carolinas,
and I don't think you'd lose them.

Here is the problem with FSN Carolina.

They only will have 1 Professional Team to broadcast of the 2 available in the Carolinas. Unless they can knock some sense into RWJ to get his team off News14, that only TimeWarner can get, and not even their entire footprint, they will many hours to kill.

Some portions of ENC and the Triangle are in the Baltimore/Washington MLB Market.
______________
