fx movie channel

I saw an advertisement that the new "fx movie channel" is coming in January. Is this a new network or is it replacing the FOX Movie channel?

The only thing wrong with this is that the FX movie block will now feature paid commercials -- something that Fox Movie Channel doesn't have. It's unknown if the commercials will be seen between films or within films.

Of course, it's commercials that practically ruined AMC as a serious movie channel.

I saw an ad on Fox Movie Channel and they said there would be "limited commercial interruption" but who know what they'll actually do.

Sounds like the demise of the Fox movie channel as we know it much like the ruination of AMC. With hundreds of channels showing contemporary movies it seems like it will be just another bark in the kennel only this renovated kennel will now have commercials. Just what cable needs another channel showing the same movies. Have you also noticed how the same shows show up on commonly owned channels. You pay for cable tiers and think you are getting distinct
programming on all these channels but they are really the same programs being reshuffled. IE: If I did not like Law and order I would be pissed that it appears
NBC, My TV, WBIN, Oxygen, TNT, USA and others.

So, being a Comcast subscriber, that still means that I'll need to purchase the FULL sports package to see it. For some reason, in their infinite wisdom, FMC is only available in that rather pricey package. Of course, the fact that the Fox Movie Channel has nothing to do with sports is of no matter to them - it's all about screwing the consumer.

OK, end of rant... :D

My guess is FX Movie Channel will simply air the same movies as the regular FX channel. This is just another case of watering down another network.

Yes and the promos for this are absolutely hilarious.

"Bigger, Bolder, Better than Ever! Because we're changing the name and adding....commercials!"

Whoever came up with that could have an outstanding career in Washington, DC.

It's possible Fox will negotiate for this to be more widely distributed, especially since they want more HH to see the commercials on this network. Fox would be essentially taking the premium out of this network.

News Corp is thinking that by removing the "O" in Fox Movie Channel automatically 18-49 year old males will swarm the channel. ;D

FX usually spends the mornings and middays airing movies, so this might mean that FX wants to expand by acquiring more sitcoms/dramas? I think they're interested in picking up the rights to Parks & Recreation and Community when it comes into syndication.

Yes - it's call "bundling," and it's even more prevalent with automobiles. I bought a new Mazda about 10 years ago, and wanted anti-lock brakes (an option, in those days). No problem - only it was bundled in an expensive options package with a "moon-roof." Please tell me what wanting to be safe and protect your kids from injury or death - has to do with a hole in the roof of your car to let air in. OK -rant over.

I'm more of an AC/heat kind of guy (depending on the season). I think I've opened the moon-roof 3 or 4 times in the decade I've owned the car. But the ABS has saved our a**es more than once.

Back to the subject of the thread - after 3 decades of premium cable, VHS movies, DVDs, and now Blu-ray, I absolutely refuse to watch any theatrical film with commercials - "limited interruption," or otherwise. Unlike TV shows, movies are not paced or edited with commercials in mind. The interruptions are usually clumsy and intrusive.

I won't be watching the FX Movie Channel.

That's interesting for Parks and Rec, since the show has a female lead (Amy Poehler) and the second lead (Rashida Jones) as well, and FX tends to be more male catered or skewed. And for Community-it's seems a little too intelligent on an artsy side, to be on FX. But maybe Fox just wants to make FX it's TBS, so is willing to widen it's syndication selection there, and then move the FX movies to Fox Movie Channel (minus the o), and ultimately drop Fox Movie Channel.
