FX To Air College Football

Starting this year, FX will air thirteen college football matchups, giving them regular sports programming for the first time since 2006 - if you could believe that (they had since aired runover of MLB and NASCAR due to conflict with Fox). Some of the college football games, which will be produced by Fox Sports, will air in primetime, with the better half of the thirteen games being determined within a week or two beforehand "to ensure exciting matchups for FX" (similar to NBC's "flex" scheduling on "Sunday Night Football").

While they're at it, why not have My Network TV air some sports as well? After all, they did air NFL Total Access, which is as close to sports as they aired to date. But I'm sure the 'programming service' could air something. Here are some ideas:

1. Arena football games are no longer on NBC so they could strike a deal with the AFL to air certain games at certain times (like, on Saturday night).

2. They could air Major League Baseball games on Saturday night since there are plenty of primetime games per week.

3. They could air NCAA basketball games in primetime on Saturday night.

4. If that NBA spinoff 'D-league' is still operational, I'm sure there are plenty of primetime games that could be televised...

Seems like FX wants to air sports just as how TNT and TBS has been doing for years. I remember FX airing NASCAR before. Also USA Network airs some sports, tennis and golf.

As for My Network airing sports, doesn't seem likely.

I doubt My runs sports...from what I understand f/x is running sports only because Fox has too many broadcast windows to just air football on FSN and Fox so they needed f/x to fulfill the many contracts/games they have.

I see that Versus airs that as I saw it while flipping channels. No one is even in the stands.

College basketball is the step before getting into the NBA I feel.

Indeed. Iowan has confused My with Ion, which aired an NFL Network-produced program not too long ago.

NFL Network shows Arena Football Games.
ESPN has the rights to Saturday Night College Basketball and MLB Network MLB Games.
WGN only carries local Teams.
NBATV also shows DL.
Fox Sports Net doesn'r show any of the big 4 Major Sports only Local Feeds of those Sports.

I couldn't tell you about the independent stations that carry AFL games, but NFL Network indeed has a deal to air AFL games every Friday night. I believe former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner is a commentator.

Oh, and let's not forget that for about two months per year, NFL Network also airs games from this other league you might have heard of... the NFL... :

MyNetwork TV seems to be aimed at a female demographic under 34.
Not very big sports fans in my experience.

Besides MINOR League Baseball is more popular & recognizable than the NBA D-League is.....

This is a huge opportunity for FX to push their original programs to their male demographic. With the fourth season premiere of "Sons of Anarchy" next month, followed by the launch of Ryan Murphy's "American Horror Story" in October, they'll probably get quite the ratings bounce from being able to advertise these during college football.

The Conference USA Championship game will be aired exclusively on FX.

Since this thread has been revived from March--there's been some noteworthy developments on this front. ESPN sued Conference USA, basically alleging that it did not re-negotiate its contract fairly or give it the WWL a fair opportunity to give a matching/better offer.

That lawsuit has since been settled, with the interesting arrangement of ESPN, ESPN2 or another ESPN property being awarded the C-USA football championship game until 2015:

As a hapless fan of a C-USA program run by idiots, I think most C-USA fans are already thrilled with how the Fox Sports arrangement is working out. Just last week, NFL on Fox announcers promoted the FX opening weekend game between Oklahoma and Tulsa on NFL preseason broadcasts. Even with higher profile signings of Pac-12 sports and the UFC, and most C-USA contests taking place on regional FSNs--most fans are excited by not being relegated to Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday night fodder for ESPN2.
