This week's North East Radio Watch
http://fybush.com/nerw.html
talks about the "abrupt" shift of all Sox games to WEEI (competition from 98.5) and the disappearance of Sox games
on 2 NH stations due to non-payment of rights fees (resolved apparently by the weekend). He mentions how some folks on the North Shore can't pick up WEEI like we can pick up WRKO--well certainly that's the case for me at the
P.O. but hopefully most on N.Shore can pick it up (plus there's WBOQ). Scott wonders if Entercom's contract with the Sox permitted such a change of flagship, and:
>>Could this be Entercom's way out of the expensive contract with the Sox?
Indeed if this contract is breaking them financially, despite good ratings (we'd hope) and earnings you have to wonder--is that 10 yr deal so ironclad? Might there be a tearing up of that piece of paper and CBS could make a pitch
for the team?
Imagine: WBZ-FM with Bruins, Pats--and Sox (conflicts? Put one team on WBZ 1030)
WEEI with the Celts, and Mikey at night.
That would be a bombshell if indeed Entercom had to worm its way out of its contract with the crimson hose! We'll see.
