Fybush: Hot 97 (87.7) raided, shut down

Hot 97 got bagged because they pumping several kiowatts on 87.7 There was a time when it could heard west on 495 around Marlboro and Hopkington. Big City was bagged when it had a very strong signal. I would bet that Big City is only doing 100-200 watts and Touch 106 has always done only 100 watts.

Doubtful. They only had a 1KW transmitter

Indeed Hot 97 (at 87.7) was pumping out a huge amount of wattage--Touch 106.1 not so much.
There used to be "Choice 102.9" a Carribbean pirate whose signal also used to get out quite
a bit (these days north of Boston you'll hear Sp. lang. programming from a legit translator
of 800 WNNW ( http://power800am.com/ ) on 102.9

In N. Reading yesterday I heard a pirate on 89.3, foreign lang. I usually have my XM radio
set to 89.3 but had the XM off and heard the pirate.

Even if you have a 1kW transmitter, the ERP going vertical only with an antenna of some gain will be in the region of 3kW. Not what I want in my treetop in my back yard, or the neighbor's yard either.

That kind of power is a hazard to the public. No way they did measurements to make sure the levels were below the threshold for public exposure in a non-controlled access space. Just stupid to think that it was okay to do that and there would be no consequences.

When's the next ship going to drop anchor and do some real pirate radio? Oh yeah, last time that happened the Feds showed up and chopped up all the equipment.

Again, the simple solution to ALL of this is for those boobs to LMA or at least purchase a good amount of airtime on WILD. Okay, it's not FM, but hey, it's legal. And you can't always get what you want, said some band I heard once... but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need....
