Fybush: WCRN, WCUW happenings last Thu.

Fybush's NorthEastRadio Watch (fybush.com) reports that last Thu., WCUW Worcester made
it back to the air after an "emergency fundraiser" though they still need financial assistance.
Also he says WCRN put a fourth tower up in anticipation of night power going to 50kW--
just in time for Red Sox season.

Looks like Public Access 1st Amendment rights aren't the only thing under attack:

Oh please, that's just the kids from WUML who're still pissed about what happened in 2004 with The Lowell Sun and Chris Lydon. They won and yet they still have to rub everyone's nose in it.

Look, I'm the first to say that UMass Lowell was mighty tactless in most of their dealings with WUML. They couldn't have generated more enmity and controversy if they tried. But at the same time, the people at the station were incredibly unprofessional, insufferably arrogant, and downright stupid in their clumsy efforts to play politics. It's a goddamn miracle UMass Lowell didn't just boot out everyone from WUML and lease the license to WUMB or something.

Anyways, WCUW is not college radio. They're completely independent of a college...which is arguably a large part of why they're having so many problems right now; without that college to pay for rent & utilities, and provide a fiscal cushion in times of crisis, a single problem (like a blown tube in your transmitter) can be the end of you. I hope not for WCUW's sake.

I wonder how many offers of big checks for their license have been arriving in WCUW's inbox over the past week or two? :-\
