If Randy Michaels takes over WLIB, New York, will The Ed Schultz Show (and Big Eddie) re-locate to the Big Apple? This morning, Fybush reported:
On the AM dial, there's still no firm confirmation of the well-reported rumor that Inner City Broadcasting will LMA WLIB (1190 New York) to Randy Michaels when the current deal with Air America Radio expires in August. Michaels has been investing in progressive talk programming in recent years, and it's expected that WLIB would become a flagship for the Ed Schultz show, among others, if Michaels takes over. It's not clear whether WLIB would continue to clear some Air America programming, or whether the network would seek to lease its own outlet elsewhere in the market.
Ed Schultz currently does his syndicated show from Fargo, ND, where had previously hosted a local show on Clear Channel's KFGO, "the Mighty 790." He does his syndicated show from there but KFGO no longer carries his show. Big Ed is now heard locally on eclectic talk KQWB (Talk Radio 1660), along with Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck, Bill Bennett (and until last week, Tony Snow). Question: Which is Big Ed's "flagship?" Is Fybush saying Big Ed might move to the Big Apple if program owner Randy Michaels takes over WLIB (or has the term "flagship" been stretched yet again)? ???

For that matter, why is WLIB called Air America's "flagship station?" As I understand it, the AAR shows that originate in New York are now broadcast from AAR's own studios that are NOT at WLIB -- and AAR also broadcasts shows that originate in Atlanta (Malloy), Minneapolis (Franken), Chicago and Cincinnati (Springer), Portland (Hartmann) and various other places (Flanders, Ring of Fire, etc.).
