Fybush:WMEX 1510...Howie

They must be using the WMEX calls now. There is a tease in today's Boston Herald for "guess who's coming" to WMEX 1510 AM Boston "Where Liberty has a Voice".

No they still identify themselves as WUFC.

Yes I guess I jumped the gun when I saw the Ad in the Herald thinking they already started using them.

According to the WUFC website, they start using them on Monday and roll out a brand new website at the same time. All to coincide with the arrival of Howie Carr's show.

Right it was said to be Garcia's company
for awhile then I think someone said
here after talking to Howie that there
were to be a couple people handling
affiliates, northern and southern? Maybe Carberry
is one of those or if he's the sole one maybe
Garcia's Global Media is not the syndicator
now?

i never even understood howie's complaint. AM travels waaaaaaaay further than FM. he had people from maine, etc complaining abt how weak his signal was; are they getting boston FM up there?!

i'm on the north shore, and we barely got TKK. just as we barely get 1510. although, at least that's not an AM/FM issue. just really low power, right?

btw, what's all this abt howie being taped? howie is clearly the live one; even if hannity and all the rest have to be shuffled. keeping morning drive and afternoon drive "local" is usually a station's top priority.

cheers

meanwhile, WMEX-FM is out of rochester NH. isn't the whole point of having AM and FM call letters available separately that they don't OVERLAP anywhere? assuming that 1510 reaches them (in *THEORY*, at least...in reality LYNN, MA is a stretch!), does this mean rochesterians now have 2 completely unrelated MEX's?! is that DONE?!

When everyone knows who is coming after it being splashed all over the Herald and Globe it might be time to drop teh "Guess who's coming" thing.

I do believe that as of today (11/17/2014), 1510 is officially WMEX.

Yup, they were still WUFC at 11p, but WMEX at 2am...so probably switched at midnight.
The FCC still lists them as WUFC, but on their Call Sign History page, they have “11/17/2014” as the Begin Date.

Think I just heard him say the 6 pm hour will be a repeat of the 3 pm hour. Yup, a 3 hour show now pretty much—maybe some days he could do 4 hours...?

(Believe I saw a tweet about this earlier...)

Good grief! A repeat hour? You'd think that would come later...and he would start out strong with 4 hours live.

Does WUFC/WMEX have muddy audio all day? Or is it the line they are using for Howie?

Aren't they already on their critical hours pattern at this time of the year by the time Howie's show starts? That's not gonna help listeners.

Does a repeat hour give his affiliates an "out" to only carry the 3-hours that are live. I'm thinking some of the stations on his network would probably like to run Levin live at 6.

Prob latter, or something between Money Matters studios and WMEX. Rest of day fine (Herald radio, syndie shows)

What happened with the Howie Carr Show was not planned, it just seemed that way. The Money Matters studio was completely rebuilt just for Howie Carr. The WMEX part of it came together the last minute.

Speaking of WMEX, Howie had Kevin Wallis aka Dr. K on his inaugural show on Monday afternoon after 4 p.m. referring to him as the station owner. Doesn't Blackstrap Broadcasting still own the station?

Howie went on to thank him for bringing his show to the airwaves and how thrilled he was to be at WMEX. Kevin Wallis said that he wanted to bring personalty radio back to Boston and have fun like radio used to be. I'm paraphrasing but Kevin mentioned that on his show (I've never listened to it) you don't listen to hear the news but if you want fun in the morning, this is it. How ironic but right after the segment, Howie mentioned how he was in Chicago at WGN several years ago and was amazed that they actually had a newsroom complete with writers & producers. And IIRC, Howie was one of the 1st critics when WRKO blew out their newsroom.

So does anyone know if Howie and / or Money Matters is paying to air the show on WMEX?

I think it's still an LMA--sale not appoved yet. When it was first announced in late April, then started in June, it was said it would be an eventual sale.Howie may have said 'owner, or future owner', not sure. FCC lookup of 1510 as of a few days ago still said Blackstrap.
