Fybush:WMEX 1510...Howie

I heard Howie's int with Dr K and he said
"new owner, or, he's buying it".

Fourth hr tonight he says as he's talking
to state sen. Shauna O'Connell. He said
he was getting complaints from Merrimack
Valley and southern NH ; he recommended
WCRN and said they were trying to get
more stations (WCAP comes to mind
but they're running Ordway)

I tuned in just in time to hear Howie complaining about something after the 6 p.m. break...not sure what it was about. He did indeed do a 4th hour tonight instead of repeating the 1st hour. I guess he can't blame Entercom anymore when things go awry. :)

I'e Been listening to Mike Siegel on WRKO, and he does a much more intelligent sounding show than Howie. I think WRKO is the winner here.

Certainly a capable host. Seems to take a lot of calls...so people are engaging with the show.

I hope he can get more locally oriented.

I found myself wanting him to loosen up and add some humor/laughs...but then again, I have to be careful what I wish for. I shouldn't show displeasure at someone who does a serious talk show! LOL!

Howie said on air today more
affiliates coming next week.Wonder
if some may include the stations
who Money Matters had running
Graham? (WBNW Concord, WCEC
Salem NH, etc..think they got rid of
WESO Southbridge)

FWIW, Radio Locator lists AM 1110 WCCM (not WCEC), Salem, NH as a 5000-watt daytimer.

AM 1120 WBNW's signal goes nowhere either day or night, so no dice with either of these two.

If only Howie could displace whoever airs afternoons on WGIR, Manchester.....

Yup re: WCEC.
Howie is on iHM's WHYN and WXTK; WGIR and/or WHJJ would be huge.
WCAP as I mentioned has Ordway but they would help in Merrimack Valley

iHM would like to clear Hannity live but yeah they could run him on delay afterwards (lots of pre-emptions at night in summer w Fisher Cats)

Hannity is on PM drive now on WGIR. You think they would toss Hannity and replace him with Howie?

What are the chances of that?

.000167mm and 0. P=)

Listening to Mike Siegal the past few days, and I have to say that from an intelligence standpoint he seems brighter and better spoken than Howie Carr...

...but Siegal's show is the same old "Obama = Socialist AntiChrist" stuff that seems to be driving ratings *down* for talk radio, at least for WRKO. Not only does that get old but it gets boring and can't be taken as any sort of serious conversation; it's essentially an hours-long rant espousing the same point of view over and over.

The quality of the advertisers on WRKO are starting to reflect this as well. I would suspect that the station is not long for this world, at least not in the current format.

Tell that to Fox news who found an untapped audience in Right Wingers.

Can't be taken as serious conversation? Excuse me? I am guessing you don't have very many Conservatives as friends! They think this is SUPER serious talk....and wonder why the mainstream media has been ignoring it!

Fox news is the "same old rant" over and over again 24 hours a day...and their ratings are through the roof!

Talkradio has suffered for many reasons....first and foremost is the "AM Band" which is dying a little bit every day.

Secondly (and not far behind) is the fact that there are many more choices for this kind of fare....not to mention the Cable news programming which is there anytime anyone wants it.

Third, the world of talkradio changed with the PPM (Personal People Meter)....regardless of political perspective.

Add to that the fact that there havn't been many groundbreaking hosts in recent years.

It's Left wingers who are trying to push the narrative that conservative political talk is dead.

I would suspect that the station is not long for this world, at least not in the current format.

I would suspect that "AM Radio" in an of itself is not long for this world.

Fox News does have a very conservative slant, but is far more centered then the AM radio lean of the current programming at WRKO. Please don't group the two together.

O"Reilly, Hannity, and Kelly are all "far more centered"?

Then again, Fox news does not have to deal with People Meter like radio does.

The set boxes that Nielsen uses to collect TV ratings are very similar to the PPM, and now that Nielsen owns Arbitron, it's likely the two systems will become even more similar.

Maybe the way I should have stated it was that Radio just went through a traumatic transition in methodology that has affected some formats....talkradio being one of them.
