FYI: Bud Zone Resurfaces in Atlanta

Item edited from Radio-Info News:

Atlanta's "790 the Zone" is staging a reality TV-like competition all month, inviting 20-somethings who “have an insane passion for sports and love to entertain” to participate. The competition includes a three-hour evening show...

Does this mean WGFX's Bud Zone was ahead of its time? Who knew...?

Ah, "The B.U.D. Zone," B.U.D. standing for "broadcaster under development." Who could ever forget?

Incidentally, the top sports radio station in the country is holding their own "fantasy phenom contest", with the winner getting his/her own radio show on WFAN in New York:

... and also don't forget, the name had a tie-in to the sponsor, BUD, with no periods. (Oh, wait, enough of that can make you forget.)

Somewhere in the "Shadow" of this board is an ex-PD who should be collecting "intellectual property" royalties for the idea... ;D

Wasn't my idea it was the brain child of one Mr. Jeremy Bennefield AKA Jay Walker AKA Quiet Storm AKA...? I came on after it was on the air but I will say it was not a bad idea! Joe did a great job with it and as long as Bud paid the bills well it went on...and on and on...you get the idea. Who knew the winner worked for another station at one time!?!?

Totally had forgotten hard-workin' Bennefield was still around the Zone then, still out working most PDs but carrying the APD title — or did they finally make an honest PD of him at some point? Took a lot of ribbing about his work on the two o'clock hour, but the quality of his talents continue to shine through on Predators Radio broadcasts. Thanks for giving credit where credit is due. Maybe he'll share some of those BUD Zone royalties...

Speaking of The Zone, I never thought any topic could surpass Kevin Ingram and former Zoner Darren McFarland's mancrush obsession for Kentucky Wildcats basketball, until I heard Willy Daunic and Paul Kuharsky heap praise and accolades on ESPN and ABC World Cup coverage. Kuharsky will never say a discouraging word about his employer (ABC/ESPN). Daunic must have kids playing soccer, and FIFA is his fourth child. Today's World Cup wrap up on The Zone was overkill. Superlatives and back patting were tossed around like Kidd Kraddick interviewing a Hollywood celebrity promoting a new movie.
