FYI-Michael Parnell/Myrtle Beach

For those who know or remember Michael Parnell, you also should know that he is very ill and in the Conway Hospital. Calvin Hicks and John Kilgo clued me in yesterday and I called and spoke to Michael this afternoon. He is very lucid and talkative (and very funny), so if you know him and can reach him, I know he'd love hearing from you. This is a chance to reach out to a truly nice, funny and talented individual who just happened to be in radio.

"A truly nice, funny and talented individual" would also be my description of this great radio talent who excelled in the production department at Wave 104 so many years ago to a few eye-brow raising amazements of wonder. I talked to Michael today and he is unbelievably in good spirits and very, VERY talkative. Any and all who can get in touch with him at the Conway hospital, please do, today he continued to lift my own spirits with his engaging, funny, and uplifting conversation and memories of the past.

I just called the hospital and he was released this afternoon. Does anyone have an email or number for him? I would love to talk to him.

You may be thinking about Calvin Parnell that worked at Oldies 103 and then B106 with the airname Terry Moore. He passed away a couple of years ago.

I bet that is who she is thinking about... Calvin also worked at WAGS in Bishopville... Calvin aka Terry was on B 106 for quite awhile as a PTer... He was good friends of one of my co workers Bill Huggins that worked with me at WPUB... After we left PUB me and Bill started a little mobile DJ venture called The Good Time Music Machine... I only met Calvin a few times, but he was quite an unique person to say the least... As for Michael I never met him in person, but his magic he produced for wave was some of the best I have ever heard in the biz... CC1

Holy Schnikees!!! I totally forgot about Terry Moore (actually, I forgot that his name was Parnell). If we're talking about the same guy, didn't he work at WDXY in Sumter, too? I remember working at "Position 14...WCOS" for Hunter in 1980-81 and he hired Terry part time. Nice guy, but he was more deaf than me...I had to repeat everything I ever said to him at least 3 times...lol. Of course, that didn't keep me from hiring him at NOK part time in the 90's. Good jock. Sorry to hear he's passed. I guess that's all the more reason to rekindle any kind of communication with Michael now, ya know? Thanks for the info on Terry, Bugz. And Carroll, thanks for reminding me about BIG WAGS!!! HOME OF THE WORLD FAMOUS COTTON FESTIVAL!!! WOOOHOOOO!!!
(Sorry...I grew up in Hartsville).

No prob Scott... Like I said Calvin was a unique person... Bill or as the people in B-Ville knew him "Tubby" told me lots of stories about Calvin... I remember one Saturday night I was doing my all seventies request show which for WPUB was very popular... Calvin called me one night while I was on the air and he was in the mood to chat... No mind ya this was the transition period when we were having our ENCO installed so we were still using SMC automation running MOYL on R2R... For me to pull my show off and give it a big city feel I did prep work beyond prep work... I averaged at least fifty calls a week for different request which for that station was not bad at all not to mention all the calls from all the "very Friendly Woman" that always called if you know what I mean... Anyway back to Calvin he talked to me for about an hour and he would not give up so I decided to have the automation alarm on the AM side trigger to get him off the phone... During that hour we talked about everything under the sun from did I like it at PUB to would I consider coming to B... Well I was happy where I was and since I knew he had no say so over at B other than a liner reader I was polite and said thanks but no thanks... CC1

Finally talked with Michael today. He is in great spirits and hanging in there. He asked me to go ahead and post his number on the board for those looking to talk with him they can reach him. The number is [EDIT], he has an email address of [email protected], his internet is down right now but will be back up soon. What a great person, life is so short, and he has a good attitude about what's happening. I hadn't talked to him in 8 years or more, and it was wonderful to catch up. To know what he is facing makes you want to run home and hug your kids and thanks the Lord for everything you have. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, and reach out to him if you can.

[EDIT-privacy concerns]

I just talked to Michael as well. He sounds like he's in good spirits despite everything that's been going on. Keeping you in my thoughts, bro!!!!
