What about AM?

As Holland mentions, taken from R&R...so unless was in the info in the article, not available (my guess is that neither PRO-AM or HJJ or DDZ made the top 5

Correct.
And that's a surprise?

Well even if those reported salaries for the Citadel bunch were overstated, yes that's a surprise considering what people there are earning. How many people in Providence at higher rated stations are in the six figure range?

Not just any. Don't forget some morning people are there because their predecessors' contracts weren't renewed for monetary reasons. Amidst all the whining about radio people not making enough money and/or losing their jobs the bottom line is that some people are just earning too much. No one should be surprised when the cuts come.

Thought the 'HJJ numbers would be up there...but admittedly news and talk is not the big stuff for the Providence market, yet. I think that will change with the elections coming and people clamoring to figure out who or what is electable.

Guess that's why we who need to get a news fix tune in to WCBS 880 or WINS 1010...it may be NY, but there is news that relates even to RI somehow on some days...

Besides, those in the know it's the rip 'n read nature of the market, that the only 'investigative journalism' left ends up on the tube or some of the newspapers...and at that it's not exactly gripping, not even at times relevant.

Since the move to CT 12 years ago, I can definitely say, it's better on this side of the state line. Sometimes, it's relevant, and some days, even good.

I often tune into WCBS or WINS simply because nobody news better! Sure they don't typically cover Rhode Island, but that doesn't matter when it comes to getting my national News fix. Besides..... I'm not all that loyal to the local scene as it is. I don't even want to admit that I live in Rhode Island on most days. So I don't really feel the need to know everything that goes on here. As a matter of fact I would rather ignore most of it and just pretend that I live in Manhattan. lol

I'm surprized everyone forgot New England's news leader station - WBZ 1030 - news from 5am to 8pm weekdays - and with a powerful signal serving most of Rhode Island - more local than the New York stations.

I agree. Never can forget about that New England Powerhouse. But somehow I managed to forget. To be honest, I'm not that crazy about how they are formatted. I would rather they be all News rather than adding in talk shows at night. You are right. They do serve Rhode Island better than the New York stations. However I probably unfairly label them less credible due to the fact that they arn't News 24/7. Yes.. even I think I'm being unfair by labeling them as less credible. I know damn well they are a top notch station. But it just bugs me that they split the format and try to be everything to everybody. I wish they would only do NEWS like the New York stations. BTW..... it bugs me just as much when WCBS and WINS break News coverage to air baseball Games. So I'm not saying that they are perfect either.

WBZ...ahh, yes...not impressed at all and for many years (not since the election of Gov. Ed King and the story I broke first - little old me on the 10-watt college station at Curry in Milton, WMLN-FM). It was that year that I realized just how lackluster Boston news was...and it's only gone down hill from there. I won't embarrass the 'names' of people on the day Gov. King was elected, but there were the powerful elite there asking ME what the results were...ME, a nobody at the time. Pathetic!!! It was on that day I made a point to not make tracks for a seat in Boston.

Growing up I had the advantage of catching signals equally strong from AMs in Boston or NYC, being on Narragansett Bay. Most times the likes of Don Imus, Wolfman Jack, Murray the K, Dan Ingram, and other NY legends were the preference, although who could resist Sunny Jo White on WILD, the great team at WHDH when they were music (remember Jess Cain and his 'paaaaaaaaanty hose'? That skit came on during morning rush right about the time I was stuck on Rt. 3 North, thankfully, or I'd have laughed myself into a guard rail!)...or WRKO when the music was hot and the jocks were actually funny?

It was the early 80s which saw the demise of great radio in Boston with few exceptions (KISS 108 for awhile, WBOS at times, the old STAR and WODS)...that was when the brain trust was faded out and the number-crunching gurus were placed on pedestals. Anyone born after 1980 who hasn't gone through the archives of radio past really cannot compare the stuff of today with the legends of our yesterday. When we have freedom like that, and talent like that, back behind the mic, that will be Boston's radio renaissance.

The days of Larry Glick, Ron Robin, Lou Marcel, Dave Maynard and Norm Nathan are behind us. WBZ used to be made for TALK! WBZ was a great place back then. More like a family. I spent many days in that building visiting Tom Bergeron when he hosted "People Are Talking". Just walking into that building was exciting back then. Except for the one day I forgot my wallet in the cab that brought me there. That wasn't so much fun. I Never did get it back.
