> >I live in the Knoxville area and caught quite a bit of the first few hours of "Jack FM" yesterday. I heard that they made a very quick decision to flip the stations because of a rumour that one of the other companies leaked about possibly flipping to the format later in the week. This might explain why they chose the ABC satellite feed. Maybe South Central will take it in-house and produce it locally after they get up and going? The Knoxville oldies station used to use most of the database/library/etc. from their former Nashville oldies station, so why not do the same with the "Jack" format? Also, the local sweepers and drops that were inserted in the satellite feed sounded rushed and homemade. I would expect if they do keep the satellite fed version of "Jack" that they will have some better imaging and sweepers cut. Also, they had periods of silence going in and out of commercial breaks, as well as sweepers running over commercials at times, etc. I'm sure that will all be corrected in a few days as well. Anyway, should be interesting to see how this develops. Right now, I'm waiting to see if anyone else is waiting to pick up the oldies format. Could Citadel or Journal have been baiting them because they wanted the oldies format. I could see Citadel doing oldies on AAA "98.7 the River" WOKI, or Journal possibly giving the format another go at "93.1 the Point" WMYU. These would be the two most likely canidates for flips.
Also, most of the local imaging that the new "Jack" has only mentions the 95.7 frequency. Maybe South Central is considering splitting off the 106.7 signal and keeping oldies there. Who knows? Anyway, both are class A signals, and neither are really great for covering the spralling market. But the 106.7 signal is especially bad in lots of areas like the affluent West Knoxville area, so a standalone format on that signal would be hard to pull off. But if it was the only choice for oldies and done very cheaply, it might do ok.
