G&L insensitivity ``rampant''?

Snipped from an article in the 15 AUG 2005 edition of
R&R Online:

``Univision has also agreed to sensitivity training for
employees in its five biggest markets, Gay and Lesbian
Alliance Against Defamation Media Director Monica Taher
told the San Francisco Chronicle. That action was offered
separately from the arbitration. Taher told the newspaper
that insensitivity to gays and lesbians is "rampant"
in Spanish-language media.''

Is Monica Taher's assertion correct or is it, in fact,
itself insensitive (perhaps bordering on ethnic
stereotyping) by painting with such a broad brush about
a particular category of media?

Sadly, some personality Mexican regional formatted radio air personalities have made a regular schtick of having stereotypical mincing lisping effiminate sounding Gay characters during their programs or have told jokes on a regular basis which, if directed to any other minority group and in an English format, would have been noticed and stopped no doubt immediately. It is an example of ineffective management that is not watching the air product..Certainly stupidity by air personalities is not limited to Spanish language radio--and the GLAAD claim that insensitivity to the GLBT has been rampant in Spanish language media is incorrect and easily countered by the number of television talk shows on all of the Spanish language networks that have proper and productive Gay programs with Gay topics..
