G-wiz? G-rock is G-wacked.

It's just the radio industry demise underway. Welcome to the future of terrestrial radio. Homogenized regurgitated satellite no local payroll feeds. So why are there still the silly among us that cling to a Frequency Modulated radio, scanning up and down a limited slice of the electromagnetic spectrum, expecting anything different than regurgitated? Perhaps the only answer is some leaning disability's are just too hard to break through. Free your mind, and free yourself from terrestrial Mhz and discover portable internet protocol, and stop living the demise of terrestrial broadcast industry.

You forgot the plug for your website.

Hey... I listen to a number of FM stations - and they're all non-commercial: WBGO (Jazz), WXPN (Triple A/Rock), WRTI (Jazz/Classical), WHYY (NPR Talk), WBJB (Triple A/Rock), WNYC (NPR Talk/Classical). I just don't waste my time with commerical radio anymore.

The truth is, I hate to see businesses fail and people lose their jobs. But I hope this implosion of domestic U.S. broadcasting will lead to the exit of Wall Street speculators and the return of real broadcasters - who usually seemed to make enough money to continue their good work until the market (like most markets) became distorted and corrupted in the 1990s.

My best wishes to all those former G-Rock staffers.

Or just get into internet radio. I knew FM radio was starting to sink, but this was the biggest low ever. I may not have been a fan of G-Rock, but I was disappointed for it to just leave out of nowhere. First, The Buzz, and now this? What's next, flipping The Breeze to hip-hop?

A take I posted elsewhere on the web-

A response to this:

Debating WHTG's merits is missing the point entirely. What is important to remember in this situation is that one of the few not-so-terrible shore stations just got yanked off the air, leaving the listeners it had stranded. And of course, the whole scene leaves New Jersey with a smaller pool of good stations to pick from. Ultimately, this is about fans of radio losing out.

As far as having another 'audio choice', I could pull up the Satrad and be just as satisfied with the music selections. Or I can pull up an old HTG aircheck in MP3 form.

WHTG became like a film with no box office and no critical acclaim.

I don't recall any of the personalities of late as I did in the past...the former jocks were more involved with the music-merit, perhaps?

They totally lost that 'live and local' synergy-which is the other part of this longevity equation when the money ain't really rolling in- when press bought the station.

I'm surprised they lasted this long.

I think the station may be reborn on the web if it hasn't been already-some intrepid fan may do that. Press understands people are leaving for other audio, and they cut their losses with a Sat delivered format which will gain the most ears in the M-O-M, NJ area.

Seriously though-was the music really that good? To my mind- no. I have other choices.

That's where I have this feeling, that G-rock will make its return online, just like with the B98.5 stream, if that's still up. However, you will get some listeners that won't turn to internet radio just because it's not on FM, and they will still protest and demand for G-rock to be back on the frequency. I just want to see how well Hit 106 will do and if they can take away listeners from the CHR stations in NYC, Philly, and AC. That is, if Press decides to "Press * to disconnect Dial Global" and program their own ways to make a CHR format work in Monmouth and Ocean.

Ok, finally found what I was looking for. (heave heave heave heave heave...)

I still have a lot of reading to do here, but if you were a member of G-Rocks Social G, 50 or so of us have gathered here to continue the good times... http://pellznightmare.ning.com/
