G105 RE: Format/ 96.1 RE: Format

Hi- I'm not in the area (live in Atlanta) but was reviewing some of the station playlist's and came across G105. According to Radio-Locator, G105 is Hot AC but according to the playlist, it looks a lot like a typical Top 40/CHR station. Which would be closer to the truth?

Also, have they ever tried a Rhythmic CHR station in the RDU market? Clear Channel is doing it here in Atlanta and it's doing well (considering the signal is awful). Lots of remixes, house music late at night and just party oriented top 40 music without the R&B and pop ballads.

Still say that the 96.1 there in RDU should flip on over to Alternative.

Few questions and comments. Fire off~!

Actually, I just went onto the facebook page for Radio 96.1. Those folks are pretty pissed about the change and I mean LOTS! I'm surprised the station still allows comments on their wall. Literally not the first person is complimenting them on the music. One of the classic rock stations here in Atlanta briefly changed to active rock over a two day period and the feedback was so negative that the classic rock format was back by Monday morning. Radio 96.1 will NOT last long. Expect a change after next rating period.

I think at this point Curtis would be smart to move all of WPTF's talk programming to 96.1 and make 680 a news wheel...well, maybe not ALL of it's talk programming. They should probably get some better shows first.

Dave Ramsey has to be killing that station. His show is just brutal. I turned it on recently and the fiancee actually made me change the station - she could not stand listening to such an a-hole. And I agree with her, I just wanted to see if he'd changed at all (haven't heard him for the good part of a year).

He hasn't changed. If anything he got worse.

Radio-Locator should not be trusted where formats are concerned. I've found their descriptions are often incorrect or out-of-date. G105 is a Top 40 station, according to BDS and Mediabase.

That's the rub. It's probably what's holding them back: waiting for the shows to be "proven" in some other markets before they jump in.... :)

I thought G 105 might have been more hot ACish in the mid to late 90s, when they leaned towards more modern rock it seemed.

They were a total top 40 in the early 90s and now though
