G4 TV

I rarely watched this network but it was removed from Direct TV as of today with no explanation. Has anybody heard anything?

Let me be the first to say "thank you" to DirecTV. This channel should have died right after it swallowed and killed TechTV.

So what did you like best about the network? The "COPS" reruns? Or the "Cheaters" reruns? (And Heaven forbid any video game geeks tuning into G4 to watch "Cheaters" and expecting a program about cheat codes - although I believe they have/had a show like that under a different name...)

When I discovered this earlier today, I checked online and according to Wikipedia, apparantly DirecTV thinks G4 has no value...and I couldn't agree more.

Maybe I am wrong, but Comcast should reallywatch out with these disputes... I wonder if any of the providors IE Cablevision, TWC, E* and E* if they made a lot of noise could it hurt them taking over NBC/U? CC1

It was not listed on any of the easily accessed DirecTV channel listings. I had to search for it.
Sounds like they are going to play hardball with Comcast again just like they did with Versus
(except Versus at least has college football and hockey....I don't know what G4 has that would
give them any leverage)

No one cares about this channel since it officially died in 2007 with all the Cheaters/Cops reruns. They're never going to beat Spike TV, especially with all those reruns of Cops, Campus PD and Cheaters all day long.

I doubt anyone cared about DirecTV killing it off... well, I don't. Expect many to complain if DirecTV threatens to remove E!, though... aka "my girlfriend's channel" ;D

Most people care for E3 week

Every month, Bright House runs an ad in local papers reminding its subscribers that some channels are carried on month-to-month contracts -- E! is one of them.

No doubt if Comcast is increasing it rates, it will soon find that they'll be losing viewers -- and "friends" in the industry.

I haven't watched anything on the channel since they dumped Leo Laporte in the days of ZDTV and Tech TV.

I watch G4 for "Movies That Don't Suck" when I need something in the background while surfing. They get an "A" for the seventies vintage open and bumpers. Another reason is that geek goddess Alison Haislip.

According to Direct TV, they are no longer negotiating with Comcast, and have no plans to return the channel to the lineup.

All I can say is, it's about time the distributors stood up and said "you know, we don't need another channel with cops reruns, since you got rid of your original programming, we see no value in you".

Of course, the next time a contract renewal comes up, Comcast will likely just force them to carry G4 in order to get Vs and Golf Channel (or worse yet after the NBC deal in order to keep carrying USA and SyFy). But for now, I think the message is loud and clear.

DirecTV is probably preparing the battlefield for the day when Comcast gets in full control of NBC
and they have a major battle over carriage of some networks with a substantial audience.

Assuming there is any good programming left after "cutbacks".

Personally, I can't think of one non-sports program on any Comcast network that I watch. Maybe they just aren't going after my demographic....

G4 USED to have good shows on it (even moreso when it was TechTV) but now every time I turn them on its more of the same crap that is available on 8 other networks.

Actually TechTV only had "The Screen Savers" (before it became "the Kevin Rose Show") and Martin Sargent

He should be famous, but I guess you have to wash your hair to qualify for that. ;D
