I miss TechTV.

This.

It's interesting to note that X-Play, a gaming review show, came over from TechTV and was not part of the original G4. The original G4 was aimed at video gaming. X-Play was the only show from TechTV that had survived mostly intact, while The Screen Savers turned into that dreadful Attack of the Show nonsense.

TechTV should still be around because without technology, video gaming would not be possible. It wasn't until after G4TechTV went back to G4 that I found out why TechTV brand was brought out. It was so Comcast could slide in G4 into more households that originally had TechTV. By then, outside of X-Play that channel had become nothing but a wannabe Spike TV to me.

A few years ago, Charter moved this channel off the regular extended lineup and into their basic digital extended lineup package (or whatever it's called). I don't miss it at all.

I watch G4 for "Movies That Don't Suck"... Another reason is that geek goddess Alison Haislip.

I believe Rob's comments sum up BW's sentiments spot-on...

No doubt if Comcast is increasing it rates, it will soon find that they'll be losing viewers -- and "friends" in the industry.

Remember - It took Comcast.....

ALMOST AN ENTIRE YEAR to add Altitude to the channel lineup on the night of the Season Opener of the Denver Nuggets that year (And even then, we would've missed some Colorado Avalanche games had it not been for the NHL strike). In fact, they PURPOSELY kept Channel 25 BLACK all day except for an announcement that ABC Family (The former tenant of that channel) had been moved to Channel 33 to make room for Altitude

THREE YEARS to add ESPNU to the channel lineup

YET CSTV (Now MERCIFULLY known as CBS College Sports) MLB Network (Albeit they still don't carry the Alternate Channel) & NFL RedZone were added RIGHT OFF THE BAT. Go figure.

As for G4, they need to STOP acting like TruTV (They're bad at that) & SpikeTV as they're MISERABLE at that & stick to what makes them good - Geeky stuff & Sci-Fi (SyFy Channel needs some competition!)

Ohh wait.....SyFy is a Comcast/NBCU channel now isn't it? Nevermind. Just stick to the Geeky stuff (Maybe they can sell it to CBS for CNET?).

I can do without ESPNU to be honest...even ESPNEWS at this point. And I think Tru is trying to be more like Spike and G4.

But ESPNU brought us that stirring Univ. of Buffalo/Ohio U. football game last evening, played before
literally dozens of people in Peden Stadium.

I want to clarify that G4 should have been a block on TechTV. Similar to how adult swim is to Cartoon Network but not take up so much time like adult swim does. That would have made a lot more sense instead of what actually happened back then.

They could have dayparted. TechTV during the day, G4 at night. Gamers (at least the younger ones) tend to keep odd hours anyways, so why not run TechTV from say, 6AM-6PM, and G4 from 6PM-6AM? Or run G4 from 9PM-5AM like Adult Swim.

It's decisions like this that don't make me look forward to NBC's networks being under Comcast. At least until recently, NBC's networks at least each had their own flavor. Now, you might as well call G4 E! for guys.

They still will. USA Network will still have its characters. SyFy will still appeal to Sci-Fi fans. Style, Oxygen & (Albeit to a somewhat lesser extent) Bravo will all still appeal to women. I don't see anything changing there.

I just don't see the main NBC network dumping more shows onto them anymore which is a good thing. The bad thing (Which is mainly fueled by uncertainty) is what would replace them. Of course USA Network doesn't really have to worry about that like the other networks (Except for mainly SyFy) because they're now dumping reruns of shows onto NBC (Take that HA!).

Now, you might as well call G4 E! for guys.

I can't quite see that BUT it wouldn't surprise me if Spike TV were to drop an hour of CSI reruns every weekday for a version of The View, only with an ALL MALE panel. Ditto for FX (Although given its ties to Faux News, I'm not so sure that channel would be the best place for such a show IMO).

Just my opinion.....

The college football games on ESPNU are one notch higher than those on CBS College Sports, which seems to go on a loop during the week. However, they'll never have the A (or even B) games - those will always make it to ESPN or ESPN2 on a Saturday. The one thing that confuses me is why ESPNU still carries the TV simulcast of radio's Colin Cowherd? He doesn't just talk about college sports on his show.

As for weeding out unnecessary channels, I could imagine that Discovery Networks could consolidate its eight or so networks into five or six. I don't see there being a wide audience for Planet Green or the non-stop "FBI Files" marathons on Investigation Discovery.

Maybe NBC will go help fix some of the problems with the Comcast owned channels. Some channels I know Comcast owns is Golf, VS, G4.

Would be great if Comcast sold G4 to CBS as I could see CBS changing the name to CNET TV as they own the cnet.com website. I stoped watching when it was Tech TV, so no clue whats on the network now.

I could see a name change for VS and making it more sport friendly, dumping some the junk programs like that Soup program as E! has. Not sure of a good name how about NBC Sports TV, simple and easy to how CBS renamed CSTV to CBS College Sports.
