G4TV Ratings and Future

What does everyone think about G4TV and their current lineup? Does anyone think it can survive much longer as a channel in its current form?

What is the future of the channel if they have one?

I personally think that the channel has run off too many people and have original shows that are not consistent when it comes to formats and themes. I specifically refering to Attack of the Show. I don't think their "flagship" show has any direction.

If they are not careful they will be dropped by the satelite providers due to no ratings and asking for too much money to carry the channel.

I will admit and I am an old TechTV junky and I think the channel was far more interesting when it was informative and news worthy instead of programming they have now.

Thoughts and opinions?

The only show I watch on G4 is Star Trek. And don't get me started on Star Trek 2.0, which is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

The fact that your favorite show on G4TV is Star Trek largely proves it is a failure. Then, most diginets are hardly relevant at all anyway. Programming Star Trek on G4 makes as much sense to me as Murder, She Wrote reruns on The Biography Channel!

Exactly what I think.

G4 was the crappier channel of the two. I'd watch maybe 5-7 shows on TechTV vs. 20 minutes of surf-by time I'd give G4 back when they were seperate networks. Comcast should have absorbed G4 into TechTV, not the other way around. I'll stop beating the dead horse, but G4+Tech TV was a really dumb idea that should have failed by now, not just resulting in rebranding the channel "G4" again.

Well, they won't be dropped by Dish Network or Comcast. Comcast owns most of G4, and Dish has a minority stake (12%).
Unfortunately, this probably guarantees they'll be around quite a while, in some form.

Strangely, G4 does claim they are the number one podcasted basic cable network. One of their video podcasts, The Daily Nut, is actually quite good, yet it is only seen online, not on TV.

TechTV was kind of cool and had a much broader appeal than G4. If you're not into video games.. and I mean REALLY into them.. you don't have much reason to watch this channel.

I have no use for the channel now. If it goes away, great.

The only show that I watch on G4TV is: Brainiac.

For 3 reasons: 1. The show is funny as hell, and educational 2. I have a thing for true British accents. 3. It's a production from Great Britian, which leads back up to number 2.

Otherwise the channel could go off the air, and I really wouldn't notice. Where would the geeks go then if this channel goes dark?

To put is simply, the network went from Tech to Drek!

I really miss the original C|Net but the beginnings of TechTV weren't too terrible. G4 became the pits. You have to figure now with things such as "The Man Show" and their upcoming "Arrested Development" they're all over the ballpark trying to find a place. Gawd, what a waste of transponder space! Other than Star Trek TOS what the hell else is worth watching on there?

Somebody should pull the plug on the G4 respirator and let it die already!

The network was at its best as ZDTV (Ziff-Davis Television; 1998-2000), with cool
shows like "Call for Help," "The Screensavers" and "Silicon Spin."

Leo Laporte hosted CFH. TS was originally hosted by Leo Laporte and Kate Botello,
then Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton. John C. Dvorak hosted SS.

CFH was a newbie show, TS was for power users, SS was a talk / discussion show.
