
The Georgia Radio Hall of Fame announced former CBS New White House correspondent Peter Maer will receive the 2015 Elmo Ellis Spirit Award at the organizations 9th Annual Induction Awards on October 24, 2015 at the historic Earl Smith Strand Theatre in Marietta, Georgia. According to Maer, he counts his experiences at WSB Radio as THE formative phase of a career that included nearly 40 years on the White House beat. Maer, who recently retired from his post with CBS, says WSB legends Elmo Ellis and Aubrey Morris were instrumental mentors. Maer anchored newscasts and covered the Atlanta city and Georgia state governments for WSB Radio 750 in the early 1970s. He also served as news director of WGST Radio. He is the five-time recipient of the Merriman Smith Award for Presidential Coverage Under Deadline Pressure. Maer was honored with the Edward R. Murrow Award. He received an honorary doctorate degree from his alma mater, Southern Illinois University. Maer is a native of Granite City, IL. He and his wife Elizabeth have two grown children and five grandchildren.
The Georgia Radio Hall of Fame is a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization which honors Georgia radio professionals, preserves Georgia radio history and operates the Georgia Radio Museum in St. Marys, Georgia.
