WOW-FM is moving from 104.9 to 100.9 Tuesday AM (according to Wikipedia). I've heard the announcements on WOW about the move "soon". I suppose they will keep the WOW format (classic hits) but wish someone would finally make a move on Kiss. With 100.9 broadcasting almost from downtown and 104.9 covering Alachua and High Springs it might work.

MARC has gotten a construction permit for the translator for WDVH-980. It will be at 94.1 not the 106.5 as originally thought. It appears they will broadcast from the WDVH tower on Kincaid Road.

JVC is changing country WTRS to WXUS, "US 102-3", a combination of Country and Southern Rock. Unfortunately, they are keeping Bubba.

I was listening for a bit.

I'm not sure how a Jason Aldean 2016 Country song followed by Skynyrd from 44 years ago is going to work out.
 
I was out on Kincaid Road earlier and saw a couple of guys at the base of the 980/1430 tower (with huge spool of cable). I assume they are working on the 94.1 translator for WDVH.

I guess WTRS has to try something if they want to remain country. K-Country dominates Ocala and 103.7 is tops in Gainesville. I assume they are after the male country audience with the format. I know others have tried this but pretty quickly drop the Southern rock portion.
 
It's an interesting move, possibly in an attempt to take away some of the Wind FM demo which is number 2. Although I like the new moniker "US 102.3" I believe those heritage WTRS call letters should remain in place, having been associated with the 102.3 frequency since day one which was March 2, 1969.
 
That was quick…

The 94.1 translator is on the air rebroadcasting WDVH/HANK. I'm getting a strong, clear signal in the Biven's Arm area.

I see two websites - one for a news station and one for Hank FM - I would guess Hank FM is on?
 
MARC now has 94.1 licensed and is rebroadcasting WDVH-980. They are teasing that they are "retiring HANK"` and will be having something new on Tuesday. Apparently it will still be country. It's a shame if they don't take a chance on a different format. 94.1 sounds really good.

I saw somewhere that UF is applying for another translator and will put it on one of the 850 towers. I wonder if they will rebroadcast the 89.1 HD-3 Top 40 format? (Beat 'em to the punch MARC!) I think there are translator applications underway for 1230, 1390, and 1430. WGGG must have done some work as I can pick them up well now.

I seem to be obsessed with translators but…a translator for 1390 is on the air at 98.9 but 1390 is off the air. Is that legal?

I keep hoping someone will do a format change with one of these new signals.
 
HANK FM is apparently gone. www.ilovehank.com directs you to www.iamcountryradio.com new logo on the website too 94.1 & 101.7 I Am Country, no mention of 980 WDVH-AM. However they are still carrying the Ward Scott morning show 7a-9a so I guess we will have wait until 9am to see what kind of country they are playing! Their "Now Playing" banner stopped at 6:58, probably the last song played before Ward Scott, song was Heartlands "I Loved Her First" which was a 2006 song. WDVH AM and FM were Country Legends for a long time.

Need someone up in G-ville to tell us what they are doing with WDVH-AM 980.

They finally got HANK off the Listen Live link but their Now Playing banner is locked up from about a half hour ago. Still a little intermittent but can listen enough to hear some of their liners. Country music of the 80's and 90's. If I recall K-Country doesnt touch anything older than 2000'ish so I guess the are aiming for just beyond that. Liners still say 94.1 and 101.7, no mention of 980 am.
 
Thanks for getting some conversation going. I started listening to HANK when they began testing 94.1 and really liked the music mix and enjoyed the "Hankisms" as well. Even though they had a lot of them, I can see they would be repetitive. 980 is still along for the ride but FM always trumps. WRUF rarely mentions 850 on the air (or on their website), only 95.3.

I'm not sure being the third (or fourth) country station in town is the way to go but we will see.

It is a third or fourth country format but it is unlike all of the others. If they are concentrating on 80s-90s country, they may do very well as that is a "classic hits" format for country aimed at 30-50 year olds.

The notation that they no longer even mention the AM is very common apparently. Shouldn't be long until almost all of the listeners are on the FM anyway.
 
All five Gainesville AMs now have translators on the air:

WRUF 850 98.1 Sports
WDVH 980 94.1 80s & 90s Country
WGGG 1230 92.1 Sports
WAJD 1390 98.9 Smooth Jazz
WTMN 1430 96.3 Religious

WRUF (and sometimes WGGG) has started mentioning the AM frequency on the air while the others don't. It's probably a good idea as every once in a while the atmosphere goes crazy and the translators are drowned out by out of area signals.

What happened to the 95.3 signal WRUF-AM was using?
 
I am not familiar with the area near the WRUF-AM tower site, but can tell from aerial photos, it's pretty developed around it, and there is 58 acres out there. The tax office shows the property is worth $869,000. One wonders if the University will one day sell off the property and diplex with another AM giving up the 5KW at night made possible with the 4 towers directional patter and let the FM translator take care of what audience the station has. Those of you more familiar with the history of the station, did it ever do well as far as sales/audience in the heyday of AM or was WGGG the big AM in town as far as sales/audience. I remember as a kid hearing it in the mid 1970s when it was AC and WRUF was a great sounding radio station in those days with NBC news on the hour and lots of local news coverage. A good sounding full service AM.
