Gainesville-Ocala Fall 2008 book

Since I know it's a no-no, I won't post numbers here. I think everyone knows where to find the 12+ statistics.

A few observations:

WOGK (93.7 K-Country) is down nearly 2 points. But who got them? Rival WTRS is also down by .4 points. Interestingly enough, WQIK/Jacksonville showed up for the first time in several books.

Orlando's Sunny 105.9 doesn't seem to have had much impact here, despite it's strong signal. Big Oldies 92.9 has actually gained substantially since WOCL flipped to Classic Hits.

WSKY, WKTK, WNDD...all solid, as one would expect. WKZY and WBXY still can't seem to get any traction. Does this mean format changes are coming (again) to 99.5 and/or 106.9?

Please discuss.

They have put a bunch of money into this version of WKZY so if this still doesn't work??? I assume they don't do that well in Ocala due to 106.7 in Orlando so maybe they are doing much better in the Alachua county only numbers.

99.5 was an excellent Hot AC a few years back and I guess they gave that up as they were getting nowhere against WKTK. They are talk/sports now so guess they'll never be in the top of the ratings. What month does Part 1 cover? WRUF 850 fell big and you would think with the interest in football they would have at least held their own.

100.5 is back to where they were before they changed from Alternative to Active Rock and are tied with WKZY. Magic dropped about a point. Country Legends (980/101.7) is second in Pamal world ahead of 106.9 & 100.5. Maybe old pro Jim Brand could teach those youngsters a thing or two!

WKZY can never compete with WYKS. And WHHZ can never compete with WRUF-FM.

One thing weird is that WJHM from Orlando beat WTMG, knocking it down under WYKS.

Then again, you'd have to figure it out in terms of signal strength & coverage area regarding the market leaders.

Just to clarify - what you have so far is the first phase (or trend) of the Fall book.

It's not a "book" until it's the full three new months of a quarter.

For those unaware - trends are notoriously volitile- as the age/gender balances are a bit in flux; though it's rare to see
much backwards revision of more than a tenth or two.

As as anyone with experience knows - I won't do much celebrating/reacting to any trend.

This doesn't really answer the original question, but when I am on the south side of town, I listen to big 92.9... on the north side, I can get 102.9 the Point out of Jax. My TV sation's live truck can get 102.9 almost to Ocala, so that's cool. My wife listens to quiche 105, but I don't really listen to anything out of Gainesville, unless it's a Gator game. It's almost sad to say I miss Panama City radio. :-\
