Gale Storm dead.

Actress/singer Gale Storm died Saturday at age 87.

Storm, who had been in failing health in recent years, died Saturday at a convalescent hospital, said her son, Peter Bonnell.

Sad news. Among other things, she overcame alcoholism.

Does this mean that Honeywell & Todd will close for a day to mark her passing?

Not only that but now what's Freddie gonna do? How do you think Mrs O'Detts feels?

it is sad to hear this. as i remember she was a Lucille Ball (wannabe) and in her day she was very cute, and had a couple of hit records too. but her career didn't last much beyond the 1950's, at the time she made "Margie" she was in her early 30's.
short career.

"My Little Margie" was a summer replacement for I Love Lucy in 52. From what I read by 53 it was popular enough in it's own right that Gale Storm was voted 2nd right behind Lucille Ball for top female in a TV show. Unfortunately her run was way too short.

How is the crew of the S.S. Ocean Queen taking it?
No one has mentioned her other series "Oh, Susanna,"
a/k/a "The Gale Storm Show" (CBS, 1956-59, ABC, 1959-60).
She played the cruise director on a luxury liner and ZaSu
Pitts her friend and cohort in her schemes (shades of Ethel
Mertz).

Ironically, her first television appearance in more than 20
years (after her battle with alcoholism) was on "The Love
Boat" in the early '80s. It was one of the highest ratings--
if not the highest rating--that show ever got; people tuned
in out of curiosity, to see how she looked after all those years
(or maybe just to revisit an old friend).

One of her hit songs, "Dark Moon," was a favorite of mine
when I was a kid. Unfortunately for the mentality of teenagers,
she was 35 when she recorded it (1957), making her over the
hill in teen minds. She did, however, continue singing after her
television-series days were over. And I never missed either "My
Little Margie" or "The Gale Storm Show."

A lot of us remember you, Gale.

Her version of "I Hear You Knockin" was good too.
Wish I had known she appeared on the Love Boat. I missed that one.

Gale Storm had an excellent voice. I agree that "Dark Moon" was great. I disagree about "I Hear You Knocking'". It would have been far, far better without the stupid, phony accent. I cringe when they play it on XM's 50's on Five.

I like them both. Different strokes for different folks.

+1.

Btw....her TV dad, Charles Farrell, was a Chicago guy. Not sure about Mrs Odetts or Freddie. Or for that matter the global HQ of Honeywell & Todd.

I thought Charles Farrell was from Massachusetts? I know he ended up spending many years in Palm Springs, Ca.
I thought Honeywell & Todd ended up with TARP money ;D

Farrell definitely seemed to have an Eastern accent....so you may be correct. I had heard he was from Chicago. Maybe he lived and worked in Chicago for a while or there was some other connection.

I'm more comfortable in assuming your correct about Honeywell & Todd getting bailed out with government money. ;D

Farrell was originally from Massachusetts, where his father had been a talent agent....guy was a definite "Boston brahmin" type....sounded, looked, and acted it! In later viewings, I always had the impression that to do Vern Albright he didn't have to act- that was just who he was, especially when he addressed Gale Storm's character as "Maahgee".

To this day, I can't think of that show without the cute little theme running through my brain.

R.I.P. Josephine Owaissa Cottle... say hello to Mrs. Odets for me...

Farrell definitely had that New England accent.
I can still hear him calling "Mahgee"
