Gallagher on WBLF

Just what we need. Another right wing loony, there aren't enough of them. Between BLF's Republican morning show, touchy feely right winger Dennis Miller, Rush and Gallagher, Why bother with the afternoon local guy and with Colmes?

WRSC's AM is no better. The obnoxious Ed Schultz whose program is nothing more than a promo for his TV show, and Thom Hartmann, who has nothing to say.

Is this the same Gallagher who used to be a comedian? I think he used to do something with water melons.

I think this Galliker is Lou Galliker. He used to own the huge Johnstown based Galliker's
Dairy.

Oh, that makes sense now that you say it. I heard him talking about egg nog the other day and I guess he was just trying to plug the family business. I think he also invented to yellow milk containers that no sunlight could get into. What's he doing in radio after all these years? Actually Vale Wood Farms up in Cresson had creamier better eg nog...same for their chocolate milk. I always tried to stick with a local dairy with my fry wagon although few customers went for milk. Most liked to wash their fries down with a soda.

Joke all you want, guys. But the fact is that even though RSC put on a couple of liberals on their AM, there's no centrist radio talk in Centrist county. BLF's replacing the PM sports show with Gallagher is just another example of the kind of divisive radio that causes ordinarily sane and decent people to show up at community meetings shouting down the people they elected. It's what causes a bumbling district attorney to show himself as credible and efficient. Its what provokes people to elect a jovial congressman who turns out to be a witting or unwitting tool of the gouging health insurance companies. And it turns public discourse into a bar fight.

Were I in a position to do so, I would challenge the licenses of half or more of the talk radio stations in the country on grounds they are not serving the public convenience and necessity, which despite the idiotic communications act of 1996 remains in the law, though no one seems to notice or care anymore.

relax...I wouldn't take satelite man too seriously. I think he's only joking about the Johnstown dairy man. I do believe this guy is the same comedian that used to cut up water mellons though and I think he has a brother who isn't as funny. Perhaps this is the brother. Did you get a first name? WBLF was a lot better when it was part of the Allegheny Mountain Radio Network. That was back when radio was radio. What sort of broadcast experience does this Gallaher guy bring to the broadcast table?

Not serving the public convenience and necessity...or not serving YOUR political views? What's "convenient" and "necessary" to you is not the same to others...

Sorry to disagree with you, MM, but it's not MY political views we're talking about. Yes, I am often in disagreement with the far right, and, judging by election results around here, I'm not the only one. The communications act of '34 in which that convenience/necessity thing first was used and every FCC decision between then and the early 1980s interpreted that as to mean balance of opinion.

That, of course started out the window in 1984 (how ironic!) and fell or was pushed the rest of the way by the revision of 1996.

My complaint is with operations -- and there are many -- who claim to follow the original concept and then don't.

I am also not saying that someone who owns a radio station can't do what he or she wants with it. I'm just pointing out that by replacing a sports show with another right wing talker removes a chunk of air time that was essentially neutral politically and pushes a particular point of view. Would I object if it were my point of view that were being pushed? Probably not, frankly. But that's not the issue.

Why all the harsh words and fighting attitudes? I don't know, or much care about all that political stuff. However, I must strongly disagree with Fryman about the egg nog. Maybe Fry never tried Ritchey's Dairy egg nog, but you talk about smooth and creamy. I can hardly wait for the egg nog season to open. In fact, I think as soon as I get this dish
sighted in I'm heading to Martinsburg for a double dip of Ritchey's chocolate butter fudge on a waffle cone.

Gallagher, Galliker--who cares. When they drop to 70 watts in the middle of his show, you won't need to worry about hearing him unless you live in Southeast Bellefonte. They could put a thousand cycle tone on 970 and the ratings would be the same.

On the other hand, did you hear Kevin & Pat this morning railing against the separation of church and state on Liberal Radio 1390--then promoting Glenn Beck on 103. These guys really know how to attract the Progressives!

Satelite man may know his dishes and feeds, but he doesn't know nog. Vale Wood Farms is creamier and tastier compared to Ritcheys although I will admit that Ritcheys is a very close second. Their (Ritcheys) chocoloate milk shakes are good also...not that plastic ice cream that Dairy Queen has been getting away with it for years. Ritcheys tends to be a little on the bland side, much like the Cove itself. I remember the Village Dairy up in Ebensburg used to have good shakes also. I think if we all worry more about ice cream and less about WBLF, we'll all be the better off

It doesn't "push" a point of view...pander to the right, perhaps, but doesn't push. A listener can very easily change the staion, if they so desire.

I've just discovered there is a band named "Oasis" and there are two brothers in the band. One is Liam and the other is Noel and their last name is "Gallagher". The band has broken up...the brothers got into a brew-ha-ha with one another in Paris back in August. Brother Liam has told The Times of London that he's already got his mind on his line of clothing called Pretty Green. Perhaps the other brother, Noel, is doing the radio broadcast on WBLF...does this information help?

I can remember when WBLF was at 1330 and was an innovative and GOOD Top 40 station.
Even though it was restricted as a daytimer.

This thread devolving into talk about egg nog and comedians was pretty predictable, what else can you do with a thread started by a lefty that wanted to whine about how WBLF's experiment in commie talk here is slowly turning out to be a bust.

Look, right wingers want to listen to talk radio. Left wingers want to listen to Quick Rock, whatever's on the CHR stations, or NPR. If there were money to be made from ratings in lefty talk, it would be popular around here. Of course, as long as the lefties can't come up with a better talker than Hartmann, there isn't any talk talent to be found on the left, anyway. Colmes is decent, but that seems to be about it for lefty talk.

Frankly, I'd be surprised if Gallagher's on 970 for very long. There's a reason that momma dumped him years ago, it's because his angry and bitter style turns listeners off. Even Gordon Liddy's more interesting than him. IMHO it was a great move to put Beck into that slot, his show is far more entertaining.

Well, the lefties might end up getting their wish in the end and doing away with onc of the talk stations, if many others are like me and won't even bother turning the dial from FM to AM at noon to hear Limbaugh because of the crummy signal on 970 ... BLF may in the end be a GOOD Top 40 station again. Automated/voicetracked, of course.

I'm not sure if "Satelite Man" is right or left wing but he seems to have a good bank of knowledge as far as the broadcasting industry is concerned. I suppose installing dishes in various households, he gets plenty of opinions. I know he has mentioned that the cove area tends to be rather conservative as opposed to Happy Valley which is leans to the left of the late Ted Kennedy.

My taste in politics is the same as my taste in radio floormats...MOR - Middle of the Road.
However, like my big ol, former Marhofer bread truck turned satellite van I tend to
pull to the right. Maybe my wheels and brain need balanced? I've got a Direct TV install
in Bellefonte next week, what time is Galileo on? I would like to hear what all the
hubbub is about.

A talk consultant told me Gallagher was being "groomed" as the next Limbaugh.
Sean Hannity came along and beat him to it.
Plus, Glenn Beck got his act together and appears to be soaring past everybody.

I'm not sure what time Galvaston is on but I can tell you this much about liberals...they're like nascar drivers...they keep going around in circles and turning to the left...by the way Satelite man, is that bread truck safety inspected? Last time I saw it, it looked like there was an on going rust problem.
