GAME ON!

Play-by-play of games, that is. We have MSA on Friday nights on a bunch of stations. We have colleges on Saturday. We have Steelers on Clear Channel and everyone else on KQV and KDKA-FM. Question, folks: Is all that PBP, especially of football though we also still have the Buccos (yeah, still do even with that slump), a turn-on or a turn-off for listeners?

I say a turn-on. It's different. It proves that radio stations can be more than automated jukeboxes with limited libraries. And nowadays, they have to be.

Major market radio has had to turn to small market tactics to survive. What was once considered taboo is now "what the hell, it's better than nothing" as long as there's a pretty much guaranteed return on your investment. KDKA has a Tradio Program on weekends, and WLTJ airs Christian Science Sentinel on Sundays.

Stations just aren't in the position to turn away revenue possibilities like before.
