Gamecocks moving in Charleston

The South Carolina sports rights are moving in Charleston. WTMA will no longer carry them. Now, the games will be on 98.9 FM and 910 AM (ESPN Radio) in Charleston. Football, men's basketball and baseball will air.

This is a big blow to WTMA. They did a poor job with the package, not airing baseball games before 7pm, and often preempting games for Hannity and Huckabee.

Kirkman now has almost all the sports rights in Charleston. CofC, Clemson, SC, Charleston Southern, the RiverDogs, Battery, The Citadel, NASCAR all air on their stations. The Panthers on 94.3 are the only team not on Kirkman stations.

This is a big deal. I wonder why Gil Kirkman is spending money all of a sudden. Recently it was announced that Brian Crabtree would leave WTMA after 10+ years and begin a new live, local morning show Monday through Friday (8am - 10am) on WQSC. Whatever the reason, I'm happy to see someone is trying keep a local element in radio.

Crabtree outshined Tara on his segments there by leaps and bounds. So, it'll be good to see what he does outside of that. I never caught the real estate show, but he seems to have some fire in his belly.
