Gameday Audio

Last year Gameday Audio had the full feed from 1210 WPHT including bumpers and station IDs. This year you don't get any station elements, just games and commercials.
 
It is 2013. Can we listen to the Phillies game on the Internet without paying for it now? This is ridiculous. (And don't get me started on local TV blackouts, which are probably better reserved for another board).
 
I actually don't mind paying $20 for streaming baseball with no blackouts for the entire season.

Unlike broadcasting, the more people listen to your stream, the more money it costs.
 
It sounds like they are pulling the feed directly from the Phillies Radio network so you won't hear 1210's or 94's IDs/bumps on the stream.

Yeah. Last year they used WPHT for the feed.

No way. The trend goes in the other direction. When radio stations started streaming you could hear everything - including baseball and all local spots - for free. It got popular and MLB saw a chance to make money (so did a lot of others). So it's blacked out and you pay to listen. The price is only going to go up. They probably got the idea from their own Season Pass packages on cable and satellite.

When they decide they can make more money they'll take the ballgames off terrestrial radio and make you pay to listen to local games. And people will do it. Team owners get away with anything. They threaten to move and they don't have to pay taxes and get a new stadium. They lock out players for most of a season and people come crawling back. They make people pay and people pay. What's strange is people will pay for ballgames but they won't pay for news any more, so newspapers are going under.
 
jnkiii, This is the very reason why terrestrial radio will always do well with sports. It's always free to listen. :)
 
Good points by Fred & Josh. For a medium (radio) that is always considers 'dying', it continues to thrive in many aspects.

Some teams get the feed from the network, and some get it from the flagship. In the latter case, the ads and station IDs will be heard. Depends on the team. In other sports (notably the NFL), all ads are blocked, as are those on MLB.TV.
