I havent seen it mentioned here yet, so I thought I would. Ganett Broadcasting announced this week that it had bought Denver's KTVD, UPN 20. This means that they will now have a douopoly in Denver, with the long time number one rated KUSA-9news.

I don't know about Newsweb, but I believe this will be the
first Gannett station not affiliated with ABC, CBS, or NBC.

Say HELLO To 9NEWS @ 9:00 pm (WAS: Re: Gannett Buys Another)

There's KUSA's 9:00 PM news prescence. You KNOW they're gonna take after KWGN 2 (WB) and KDVR 31 (FOX O&O) with a 9:00 PM newscast of their own.

In addition, they could also produce a local "Today" style morning show at 7:00 AM to compete against the offerings by 2 & 31 as well.

That said though, I can't see them carrying the Rockies OTA rights once the current agreement expires. I see those going to either KWHD 53 or KPXC 59 (the former now being the best bet at this point, though of course the latter is still plausible).

Just my $.02 worth :)<P ID="signature">______________

...as well as "Today" itself on KUSA.

Personally, the latter's a better choice, since anyone can (supposedly) buy time on a Pax/i station. KWHD is a religious station (especially one that's part of the "World Harvest" family), and I shudder to think of them being a flagship of any pro team.

Alive did producing a 10:00 newscast for
UPN affiliate WUPA/69 (not owned by Gannett)
in Atlanta. That newscast bit the dust in
a matter of months; no competition for
WAGA/FOX5.

THAT said though, KWHD does have two things going for it that KPXC doesn't.

1). It's a well-established full-service Indy (Albeit religiously based).
2). They are known for picking up syndie fare from ESPN.

KPXC, OTOH, is pretty much a one third-religious, one-third entertainment and one-third network affiliated station (That network of course being i/PAX).

Either way, it'll be interesting to see what Gannett does with KTVD.

Cheers for now & Happy Holidays :)
