Garrett versus WBAP

Does anybody know the behind the scenes details on the Dirt Doctor leaving WBAP? Was he dropped, did he quit or was it mutual? Why doesn't any local newspapers do a story on this? All of a sudden he just didn't show for his Sunday morning show (we had to listen to "best of" Mark Davis) and nobody at WBAP ever said a word about where Howard went.

99.99 percent of the time when there's no warning, they're dropped like a hot potato, no goodbyes, no nothing; it was a management decision at WBAP. OK radio people, I want the scoop because I bet it's a doozy!

Garrett hated his show being over sold. There never seemed to be enough time on saturdays for his show due to spotload. He hated and told them over and over agin not to have pesticide or chemical based fertilizer spots on his show but they happened. He wanted to expand the show and thought ABC might do that. Then the sale took place. He was not really looked upon fondly by Bob.

I think he'll do better without em...my dad listens to howard and even said he got tired of hearing all the spots. Bob can stick it where the sun dont shine to be quite honest...see if the new corporate overlords keep him one once everything is said and done.

Bob has been, and was, the cause of MANY changes
(good and bad) at WBAP. He's a fickle, strange
person to figure out with a lot of his motives.
Some moves have been downright flabbergasting,
and have in turn bitten him (and ABC) in the ass.
He came in from Albuquerque on the heels of the
Tyler Cox regime, thinking there was a lot of things
that needed fixing. Of course, every new PD thinks
that, whether a station needs it or not. Thing is,
nothing was broken or needed fixing. Over time, he's
pulled some doozies. The worst move I think was
taking away the noon news hour, and the afternoon
news show. That showed right away they were all in
it for the money and greed of a national syndicated
host(s), rather than making a go of serving the
community with a local element. The suits would argue
the ratings would lower, but I disagree. WBAP is
such a legend, but I think the only reason it stays on
top is the fact its been around for so long the
old timers stay with them, and the new listeners are
sick and tired of all the changes and cluster f**k at
KRLD.

Good points. The afternoon news block was very good, but it had a major fault Nancy Jay. She never prepped and was just reading her magazines, when she wasn't on the mike, for her own pleasure not input to the show. Chris Jackson didn't care for the area, though his wife did. She was an FA with Sw Airlines, and a Captain in the New Mexico Air National Guard. She was very nice. Then Gary McNamara comes in,and the ratings were not there either,so they moved him to evenings, while ABC insisted that all O&O Talk stations carry Sean. Bob meanwhile was barely tolerated by staff then, and that has remained a constant. He criticized Hal and co. one morning saying their bits weren't funny. Hal was flabbergasted at that remark. Noticed there wasn't a mention of Bob or David at Hal's recent anniversary celebration?
