Garry Meier and The Loop.

I was thinking that if Garry doesn't survive a CKG format flip, I wonder if he would take over afternoons at The Loop? It would be interesting to see him compete directly with Roe. Thoughts anyone?

I think Garry would be a great addition to the Loop but only if he adjusts his show to include music. If it is all talk, then I don't think it would be a good fit for the Loop. The Loop has branded themselves as "Chicago's Rock Station"...if they added another talk show to the mix besides Brandmeier, it would dilute their image and cause confusion for listeners as to what they are really all about.

Garry would be great anywhere. Here's an odd thought. How about if WGN got him and stuck him on in the afternoon? Better than what they have now.

What you say makes sense. Yet, apparently not the way of thinking at WLUP or else they would have simply hired McMurray fulltime and stopped their search. Instead, they have it in their heads that they need to "bring back the hey day" of WLUP and bring back some heritage jocks. Meier would fit that bill.

Personally, I think they are choosing the wrong hey day era. With PPM they'd be smarter to go the Patti Haze-Stroud-Skafish route. Oops...they let Skafish slip away to WDRV. Now THAT was a very stupid move. And if WDRV is smart (which is appears they are) they've locked in Stroud. If WLUP wanted there's a host of other Chicago "era rock jocks" from The Blaze and Rock 103.5 still in the area they could hire. Gee, Seaver and Cara are from those stations. Two other ignorant moves made by WLUP.

The fact that afternoon drive has not been filled for around 5 months or so indicates to me that they have budget issues, and that's what's holding them up. I'd be shocked at this point if they hired anyone before 2008. And that's just plain crazy. They are pissing away their opportunity to make some headway in preparation of PPM.

Hello...I used to live in Chicago from 1979-82. At that time, Steve Dahl and Gary were partners on WLUP. Now living in upstate New York, I am obviously out of touch with Chicago radio for the most part, but try to read up on Chicago radio as much as I can.

I was just wondering...Is there a possibility of Steve and gAry ever getting together again, or did they have a falling out years ago...or just decided to do there own shows. I thought they were great together back then.

Thanks for any updates on both of them

1khz tone at 0VU is better than what WGN has now.

Does anyone else feel that Kevin Matthews is also getting ready to return to Chicago? Re-creating the LUP from the 80's would be great. I wish Garry the best and hope that it's not another 3 years before he returns.

Let's see, Garry is out of a job again.
Roe Conn's ratings have fallen significantly.
ABC is now Citadel with new owners and all new management since Garry left.

I'm betting a Roe & Garry reunion by January 9th!
Anybody with me?

That would be great, but I think Garry's negative feelings toward Roe run too deep. I do find it interesting that all the other local shows have their own sites or blogs independent of WCKG. I wish Garry did as well. If you Google him, his oldCKG page still comes up, and yes, you can still hear the podcasts.

Is there anyone that has worked with Garry that he doesn't have deep seated resentment?
Hey Garry, remember the lesson from The Godfather?

"It's not personal, it's just business."
