I can't say good or bad about his abilities of late, I just don't like the man. If I recall, the Christmas cards of the entire staff that went out when he was at WJR always seems to get tacked to our bulletin board right through his nuts.

Berkowitz is on retainer to keep him from going back to WNIC or WMGC. He has resources they don't have, but he is a horrible consultant. He is only good when it comes to creating a boring, stale sounding, liner-card only, no personality, background radio station. NO one is passionate about the stations he consults and I do know of a handful that their ratings tanked after he took over. He told me once wanted to be a great jock. I've heard him and he never was so he takes that ability away from those that are or can be. He is an arrogant man who talks to anyone who doesn't agree with him on everything as if they were two years old and has to be spoon fed. Before you go on the "well, you must be," let me tell you that I have been in the business a long time. I have a long list of successes and have always had a great relationship with my consultants. There was no way he was going to allow anything but his opinion in the mix. There was no, "Well, what if we did it this way with..."
When he took over WOMC, he focused the station 35-64 (again), which the sales people cannot sell because the agencies won't buy anything outside of the top 5 25-54. WOMC, according to the spring book, is not even in the Top 10 25-54. I have friends inside the building who tell me the atmosphere there is horrible. No one likes working there...it's not fun. As corporate as radio has become, it should still be fun. You need to win in the hallways in order to win on the air.

Consultants usually don't touch equipment, do production or voice commercials. They simply make suggestions. They are hired and report to the general manager...not the PD or the Engineer.
If your PD or Engineer has a problem with the consultant, then they have a problem with the GM.
If for some reason a consultant DID adjust your optimod, I'm guessing that it was reallly obvious that it was messed up and the chief didn't know what he was doing. If thats the case, you should be thankful he stepped in and made the changes.
