Gary Cruz Retires from KPHO

Gary Cruz just announced on his nightly sports report that he is leaving the business after 38 years. He is retiring and wants to go out his way, this is something he says he has control over, leaving the station. What are your thoughts, opinions on this? Is this just part of the shake up at KPHO with a new manager?

Could be a little of both - his decision, but prompted by the specter of new management. New managers always have different ways of doing things, and the transition is usually such a big hassle that people nearing the ends of their careers decide it's not worth the aggravation. It also allows new management to bring in their people.

I wish Gary Cruz well. His bright, cheery attitude on camera has been pleasant without being overbearing.

WOW......Sad to hear Gary Cruz is leaving CBS 5 NEWS. Hope they can now get a real sports anchor team togther now that Gary Cruz is leaving ,and Mike Chamberlain recently left CBS 5 NEWS also. Hope Amy Bender is not the lead sports anchor. She is horriable in doing the sports newscast. Well good luck channel 5 in trying to get a good sports anchor team together.
