Gary Harper of KTVK Retires

Sorry, I'm behind the power curve.

Gary announced his retirement on November 10th. He is moving East, I don't think he said where. Arizona Family has been playing Best Of videos during the 5:30 p.m. newscast, including his start in Texas as an anchor and reporter.

Gary seemed like a nice guy and was out in the field fighting for viewers. Good Luck Sir.
 
He stated on the 5:30 show tonight that he's moving somewhere on the East coast of Florida.
Items visible in background in some of his Zoom (or whatever) shots suggest he went to Texas Tech. Anyone know if he played football there?
 
So who is going to take Gary's place as the afternoon/nighttime 'face' of On Your Side? Susan Campbell is the morning face of OYS. She might move to later in the day.

Derek Staahl is the fill-in Good Evening Arizona anchor. He could slide over to OYS, but to me, it doesn't seem like a good fit.

If they are going to continue the "in your face" aspect of OYS, they will probably have to hire someone with a personality like Harper's. I can't think of anyone currently at AZ Family who could fill those shoes (although the new breaking news reporter Stephanie DuPrey *might* be a possibility). OTOH, they could go to more low-key "consumer advocate" model which could be Susan, Derek, or even Jason Berry.
 
Good points. I think AZ Family would want to continue the 'in your face' aspect.

BTW I don't remember anyone previously having the title Breaking News Reporter. Is it new?
