WBZ longtime morning man Gary LaPierre is retiring at the end of the year.

Good for him: he's been talked out of it several times. As far as his commentaries go, I considered it just part of the show biz radio has become. Whether he believed everything he said, who knows?

Isn't he already in Florida? He won't have to go far!!!

I guess that walk from his bedroom to the home studio in the basement of his Florida digs got to be too much for him.

Personally, I say good riddance. I'm tired of his right wing rants and condesending tone in his newscasts. This guy jumped the shark years ago. However, lifers here seem to overlook his weaknesses because he didn't have the good sense to retire earlier and stuck around way too long. I'm actually looking forward to listening to WBZ in the morning and not having to hear that blowhard.

I will miss listening to him. I'll never forget the banter between him, Bob Lobel and Dave Maynard in the mornings around 1982.

Obviously you've been listening all along so spoken like an effin hypocrite.

45 years at one station in a market like this is impressive, to say the least. The man's career is something anyone in the business would love to emulate.

No one broadcaster appeals to every listener on a given day, but he makes a connection with an awful lot of people on the other end of the radio.

Disagree with his commentaries, sure, but I think you have to give Gary alot of credit for being a survivor in an industry that chews 'em up and spits 'em out like an assembly line.
