Gary LaPierre's Retirement

I could go either way. I only listen to BZ in the morning for no more than 5 minutes at a time to get the traffic and/or weather.

I haven't listened for a while but I kind of miss those rambling, cranky "LaPierre On The Loose" segments. They were meant to be a joke, right? ;)

i'll miss hearing him..

i, too, will miss hearing him. the fact that the man has survived for so long in an industry staffed by people who truly love what they do (it sure ain't the money....), and has maintained an incredible professional demeanor and rep is a monumental task in itself, let alone in excess of 40 years at the same station.

i wonder about those who take pointed jabs at Gary - i must guess it's jealousy.

LaPierre On The Loose - for good.

that's " -30- " Gary! 73's and mega-BZ's to you! (odd note that BZ means BravoZulu or "Job Well Done")

Before you fit him for The Pope's Pointy Hat, get over yourself. He had a great voice but his editorial style was as stilted as his JC Penny Suits.

Does anyone care that LaPierre is retiring?
Does anyone care when anyone in radio retires? Just a different voice coming out of the box.

Well, at least LaPierre didn't create a screen name and toot his own horn about his retirement. Gary has more class than some.

Personally, I think there's something positive to be said for anyone who lasts 40 years in this business, let alone at one station. I'm all for saying "Good luck and enjoy your retirement Gary," rather than have something negative to throw at the guy on his way out the door.
Does there always have to be some sort of put down in virtually every post on this board? How many of you are going to have a 40 year career in radio? Like anyone who puts that amount of time in on the job, I'm sure that near the end his productivity slipped a little, but I think that can be forgiven. I mean Yaz probably stayed too long with the Red Sox, but after 23 years I don't recall hearing a "boo" on his last day.
Maybe to some of you it is just a change of the "voice in the box" but I think Mr. LaPierre has earned the respect of (most) of his peers and I wish him nothing but good luck in his post-radio life.

regardless of your thoughts on his views or his delivery [EDIT]

wondering how i should "get over" myself for passing along some positive thoughts about a fellow radio pro (and former co-worker).

no wonder this board lacks the open exchanges it once had with true working radio people contributing on a regular basis with their first-hand points-of-view. now, those who do chime in, for the most part, have to select an alias in order to shield themselves from the inevitable - each and every contributor here is subject to some sort of personal attack for absolutely no reason at all.

Gary did what many of us had envisioned upon entering radio - lasting a really, really long time at a job he enjoyed, and being able to maintain his roots on top of it.

[EDIT-inflammatory]

In a world where it's become so hard to grab a consistent, large audience, LaPierre may be among the last of a shrinking group of talent in Boston.
