Gary Ley and Kelly Mcgee let go at WJAR-10

The 12 cuts announced in December, which took effect Monday, were made possible by automation of the production process.

The above is from the Projo article. Okay, so WJAR is going to automate their weather??? What a stupid move. Every station especially
local television news. Needs someone with stability especially when it comes to weather. I guess television is taking a cue from the
suits that run radio. If you make to much money. You're a prime candidate to lose your job. Hopefully after his non compete ends.
WLNE or WPRI will pick Gary up. Sadly, this gives WPRI ammunition to slam WJAR in promos. If they wish to go that route.

Not surprising, I had wondered when the bad news would arrive. Kelly had only been there 13y? It seemed longer.

Is Mario Hilario on the list too? I've seen some unconfirmed references.

Gary Ley was the best. Very enjoyable to watch. I enjoyed his relaxed style. A true professional. I thought he was so good that I am almost ready to pack up and move to whichever city hires him next. I am really going to miss him.

such a shame, good people, Gary was someone you could trust, and Kelly was good too.

wow TV, as radio, is changing as we speak as well, pity...

As for the layoffs due to Automation, its all in the cameras. I believe the entire studio is now using robotic cameras.

I heard Gary was looking forward to this., as for Kelly, touch break, but it happens, especially in this business. Good luck to both.

I have a friend who now refuses to watch WJAR News anymore. All his favorites were let go. I think he does have a point. A Newscast is about much more than just delivering the news. It's about tuning into Anchors who have become like a part of your family. A crew of people who you watch day in and day out with who you can place your trust. Once the whole family moves out of the house, please tell me what is left? All you've got are strangers in your living room. You end up not even wanting to be there yourself anymore.

With that being said, I think WPRI 12 and ABC6 are going to benefit. PRI is to slick for my tates. They need to tone down all the chroma key and rapid pacing. If they could go back to that two level set from the mid 90's and lay off some of the electronics, than I would tune in again. But as it stands I am going to switch over to ABC 6. Real walls, real equipment and a more likeable staff. Sorry channel 10. You've lost a long time viewer. Media General better pull a rabbit out of it's hat if you want to get me back.

I would seriously consider sending the General Manager of ABC6 a letter telling him so. If they see that real viewers notice something like bad lighting, perhaps they will work on improving it.
