In my opinion, this is too little too late for WJAR. They've laid off like half their staff, and their news has really plummetted in quality. I might watch on weekend morning, but otherwise, I won't be "turning to 10" anymore.
Well...you know its bad at WJAR when WLNE has more talent. I have more respect for WLNE now, they actually employ people, rather than automating EVERYTHING possible. Plus, I'd rather watch them than channel 10 now. They cover more news, because they actually have reporters who can go places and cover stories. But, I mainly watch 12.
I have mixed thoughts about WJAR, because I know a current and former employee there. The loss of talent is quite remarkable. Suffice it to say this station's history is about all it has going for it and it's been enough to hold off the others in the market. Viewing habits die hard in RI apparently.
You really have to ask what is the next shoe to drop? They are tied to a few highly paid veterans but when their contracts end, will they go to younger cheaper talent?
Frank Coletta will probably be retiring soon, at which point they will probably have Mario Hilario take that over, and not hire a reporter to replace him.
