The first few games I thought that he was actually worse than the action on the field. Liek you, I have noticed a nice improvement, and he does bring a lot of knowledge of the game to the broadcast. I keep reminding myself that this is his first month, and I believe that he will keep improving throughout the rest of the season. (Unless Julius calls for his immediate firing that is

The Sarge knows the game. I'm never going to take anything against him in that matter. But, there are some ex-players who are naturals in the booth (as much as I hate to say it Tim McCarver is a darn good example). Gary Matthews is not. His delivery leaves plenty to be desired and he seems more disinterested vocally than even Larry Andersen can be.
I'm not saying Matthews should be fired immediately like a certain poster, but I cannot see him being here for longer than a season or so. Rob Brooks has done some pretty bad stuff to the broadcast team. You know things are bad when Scott Franzke is the best member of your broadcast crew.

What happend that LA was relegated to straight radio duties? Why can't they rotate around like they used to in the 80's when harry and whitey would do 1-4 innings...then Andy musser and whitey thru the middle innings and then back to harry and whitey to finish the game.
Matthews bores me during the game, and Wheels doesn't KNOW the game...he tells you stuff you already know. I think he should go back to PRISM and do the games with Jim Barniak. I mean there was a time when Michael Jack did time as an announcer but he knew that wsn't his bag.
I mean I understadn they want to keep Matthews but rotate them around I suggest Harry and Gary 1-4 innings, Wheels and Anderson 5-7, HArry and MAtthews 7-9.
