> Not sure of the year of the flip, but I think it was around 1981, and Mc kee first arrived on the scene in 1972, Miss him greatly, and he was great, in mornings when he was only on the am side, with no one else with him...

Hard to imagine today where multi-person morning shows are the rule, but before the early-mid 80s AM drive was pretty much a solo operation (maybe a news/sports/weather person too, but minimal interaction between them) and were more music intensive.

New WQXI aircheck going up late today

You got that right. On a different note, I just recorded a new reel of WQXI from 1969 into the computer. It needs editing but sounds fantastic. Thinking I'll post it later today to wrap up a big July 4th Airchexx.com update!<P ID="signature">______________

The Bootleg Top 40 Vol. 1 aircheck, which was
compiled in what appears to late summer 1971,
includes Barry Chase in PMD on WQXI and on it
he promotes "McKee in the morning."

I just want to thank you for your efforts on airchexx.com. I thank you for giving us more of WQXI am. This was a great station and for those who dont know what WQXI was, It was the top 40 for atlanta, and no other could come close to what they did in the atlanta area. Sure from what I barely remember, there was WPLO am 590, WAKE 1340, but neither could do any damage to the mighty 790. I was turned on to the station by my sister, Marlene, boy Im glad she let me know about them. I was a mere 5 yrs old, and man the station was a powerhouse. I wish radio could have retained that magic, personality driven radio, with music, and a comitment to news, and public service, now its just garbage, and no one could tell me diffrent. So to those who think that your favorite fm station is
doing all things. trust me, take it from someone who knows, listen to am radio from the 60s and 70s, your fm , isnt close... Thank you , to all who keep the old radio alive... thank you from the bottom of my 790 heart.....

Re: WQXI

From around 1964-1974, if you were a top 40 jock in Atlanta, the place you wanted to be was at Quixey. WQXI was tops and everyone else was trying to get where WQXI was.

Unlike places such as Chicago and Miami, the #2 station was a distant #2 and was not close to being #1 while WQXI was around.
