Gary Owens after 69 (0). Ugh? U know what I mean!

I don't know him but I suppose his desire to be on the local (L.A.) airwaves is strong. He is just about 69 years old believe it or not. In a short time his current home, 690AM, will be changed and he will be out.

Could this man of such distinctive talent fit somewhere in today's radio marketplace, other than nostalgia, and as a "live" radio performer or is he basically an entertainer of the past?

I say more of him please!

No, What do you Mean?

Gary Owens has done everything in life that can ever been done! I know him, and
I'm sure his "desire" to be on the Radio left him over time. When I worked with him at KIIS, I must have thought he was a Million Years old. Now, I am the same age as he was in 82, just less than 1 Million!
Gary is no "Entertainer of the Past". If you question whether he will work again in Radio, perhaps not doing a Voice Tracked Air Shift, which must be so exciting for him, right up there with going to the Bathroom. However, as long as Gary stays healthy, you can count on him doing various appearances, and as always, doing Commercial's for both TV & Radio, and charging bottom Union Scale only, that just how great G.O. is!

He sure doesn't look it, and I've gotten together with him within the past year.

Well, he does still do his daily voicetracked Music Of Your Life network show ... as well as lots of voiceover work.

Re: Gary Owens

I'm sure Gary Owens gets lots of work for voice-overs and narrations.

He's got one of the best deep voices in the business.

I have a special spot for Gary because of his work as Space Ghost, but i hope he will continue to find work on the radio until he wants to stop.

Re: Gary Owens

No comparison between him and Ryan whats-his-name.

Re: Gary Owens

Be he "Powdered Toast Man" or "Roger Ramjet", Gary Owens will entertain us until

forever! From dusty tapes of the "Gary Owens Special Report", to worn out

tapes of "Laugh In", never forget, at all times, to be "insegrevious!"<P ID="signature">______________

Re: Gary Owens

"Space Ghost here....".

Might there be new episodes of "Space Ghost" in 2006 to mark the 40th anniversary of the premiere of the original show??

If so, it will be great to again hear Gary Owens' voice portrayal of that character in all-new shows.

Gary Owens is a true classic! He's off the wall, he sounds great and he's a professional. Those characteristics in radio are sorely lacking. Gary should have no trouble working as long as he wants.

You know KM, age is so relative. When I had the pleasure of knowing Gary, he was about 48, and I was about 24. I thought he must have been 60, because I knew of him since age 6. Now I am almost his exact age, as when I spent Mornings with Gary & the Crew at KPRZ (Commander Chuck, the Coach Charlie Wright, Ron McCoy & Ron Foster with News.

I bet he Voice Tracks a Weeks worth of Shows in one Hour, and get's no enjoyment from it. And talk about being humble, taking only Scale for V/O Work,(at least that was his Policy in the 80's.) I heard MOYL out in the Mojave Yesterday, our good friend Chuck Southcott was at the Helm, nothing like hearing Glenn Miller's 1940 Hit, Tuxedo Junction. Chuck sounds great Weekends at KKJZ!
