Gary Ross on Majic 94.1

I heard him this afternoon on my way home from church. Boy, does he still sound good. Thanks Majic folks, for getting him back on in the market!

Later....

The Boss Gary Ross is back in the air chair! That's good to hear. He coulda been the next Dale Van Horne if he'd have married a few more lovely ladies at the same time.

JUST SEND YOUR CHECKS AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO ME ::)

Ya Know, I know about this when I was with Southern Broadcasting...Dale never married those girls..Ask Walker , Spooner or Charlie!

But they sure thought he was gonna! I remember running into one of them at a WUNC telethon. Some of the folks from KIX were answering phones and she was a floor producer. Would love to have a picture of our faces when she told us she was engaged on Dale!

Now, That's funny!! I remember hearing about that now! THE BIG 85...WKIX

Wow... that's one I didn't know about!

I knew about 1 in particular in the 70's. I think it was Mike Mitchell who was in Wilmington and picked up a newspaper and found a wedding announcement featuring the married Van Horn. He took the paper to the station and flopped in front of Dale whilst saying something to the effect of "What!?! You weren't going to invite me to the wedding?!?"

Fenley... remember the receptionest (I think) at 94Z? She had not told anyone at the station who she was getting married to because that person was "in the business". Finally at a bachelorette the girls at work threw for her she was pressed for the name of the dude she was getting married to. After all she was getting married the upcoming weekend and everyone would find out anayway. When she revealed the mystery person Tall Donna blurted out.. "Dale Van Horn?!?!? HE'S MARRIED!!!!!!!!!"

I remember. Donna had worked with WYYD in sales before going to Z. The UNC-TV deal was, I believe, before the 94Z receptionist. What a character DVH was!!

He was! Man he drove me crazy at times but he was a blast to work with and extremely talented. I understand some of his Hayes Jewelers ads are still running!!!!

Oh... by the way.... congrats to "The Boss" Gary Ross... since we are all in his thread! A good guy who I had the pleasure of hiring during my time at Oldies 93.

I have often wondered what amazing things Van Horn could do if he had today's digital editing technology. That guy, with a pile of carts and a four track, could do some incredible things! Of course, he would need a 72 inch monitor!
