Hi Jerry! We used to talk at KKEY in the mid-70s. There was a pretty substantial explanation of the Hot 100 on this website recently. Before 1980, the chart was a reflection of the wholesale business. Songs would climb up the chart based on orders from stores and it would be a few weeks before the orders came in so no one was buying them at retail. In order to actually be a hit, unless it was a "regional hit", a song would have to make it into at least the top 20 and more like #15! For the most part, there was very little difference between a song that peaked at #100, from one at #40. There was however quite a difference between a peak of #10 and #1. The Bubbling Under chart was a way of pushing more product, hoping that someone might want to be ahead of the curve and occasionally, they'd get an order of 5, but if a song never moved out of Bubbling Under, it didn't sell at all, even at wholesale! I'm glad to see you're still doing the radio thing. I stayed at KKEY for 22 years before leaving in 1998. Steve

Steve,

You and many at KKEY was very kind to me, I know people on PdxRadio(most)not all have given me crap and that is ok...some may say I was crazy for my passion, I mean no harm no intimidation or such but to have a good time, I got rid of the Part-15 AM Binh did come by and I was exceeding un intentionally and many said The TH II units can do that, so I signed it off in front of him and was willing for him to take it to prove I was signing off..he looked at the FCC ID Number and said in other words just voluntarily take it off and sign the paper that I did and send a letter to him that I would no longer do that..I apologized to him and told him that I will no longer broadcast like another broadcaster.

Again I meant no harm or to give a bad reputation. I have fun for what I do really nothing else. I left Omni for many reasons and I donated some equipment including the AM, now I am happy..thank you for the information...Not to rip off goodguy radio in anyway or compete with any..I do my own two internet station...a tribute station to KAAR(I know)but why not and from ym own collection really not as grand as dirty dave's, I do have KAAR Jingles and some a/c's and the BA has done liners for me as well..I have fun and Country Lovin Radio format from 1927-89..from my own collection..

I have John Paul whom I worked with at KLOG do voice liners for me as well..I do pay a flat fee to BMI and ASCAP..I make no money from it I do pay the expenses from my SSI..I moved back to Vancouver after my Divorce(22 years)she changed after I lost 250 pounds and went through 8 surgeries due to Gastric Complications and staying 5 months at a retirement home to recover..I loved meeting you and others at KKEY even Ralph was good to me and you were very kind and I appreciate that..I have been the butt of jokes that is ok..I do not care after what I have been through and giving me crap about this and that and I do deserve that..

I am fine with my life really..I have 3 shows on The Oldies side Mine, Big Bob's Memory Lane live Sat 6-9 AM and Starr Talk via KKNX 9:05 PM Sunday and The Country is in Test Mode until the 10th...you can search KAAR and Country Lovin Radio on shoutcast, it is not perfect but who cares..I have no complaints and my show is heard on Rag FM in NZ Mondays 2-3 PM their time..

Well thank you steve and take care, my Ham page can be found on www.qrz.com KE7GGV I am a A/E class for years..I got great QSL cards from Joe Walsh and The King of Spain...I have spoken to over 190 countries(not much)HF is good my favorite is Japan and AK, especially Chicken Alaska..for real...I did have a run in with Linda once at KKEY Russ B saved my ass one time and she was drinking..I noticed they have one tower now..I do remember the Old KEY sign and The Bauer Transmitter and the old Transmitter..I was impressed, Ron was good to me too..well take care, perhaps lunch sometime..

THX DE KE7GGV 73 Steve..take care ok and thanks..

It's still 5KW but non-directional, something they could never do before, with the 25mv/m downtown/business section requirement.

I remember the KKEY engineer would do the power level steps, I never visited the downtown studio..and I remember the great equipment KKEY had I was always fascinated with the Mixer...thanks for being kind to me and taking out the time..

I would like to do lunch with you Steve sometime..you are welcome to re-post my stuff on pdxradio.com I also do custom free liners for Ham Operators(I being KE7GGV)who operate IRLP/ECHOLINK or RF Repeaters, I am talking to the folks at KQRZ/KQSO playing my Oldies Show..

Well take care..
