Gay Clubs on the Radio

I just wanted to give props to Mix 96.1 for allowing gay clubs to advertise. It shows how open and diverse the city of San Antonio really is.

I'm not at all opposed to those clubs advertising, but there are some churches in town that would be. Some of them buy ad and/or paid program time on Clear Channel stations. If they get wind of "that kind" of advertising on Mix, they could make their opposition known by pulling their ad dollars and by revving up the congregations to contact other CC advertisers to request that they do so.

Not saying it will happen, but if it does, this could easily get ugly.

FYI...Z106.7 had been advertising the electric company a few months back...I think they even did a few remotes there

You're right. And I believe Jammin 94.1 was also doing the same but for a different club.

chances are, those churches don't even listen to mix 96.1.

Well, you gotta remember, with sales, money is money.

True but not many radio stations see it like that. The mention of Gay, Drag Show, or Miss Transsexual would detour a radio station from using them as advertisers. Regardless, I think it's great that establishment like this are able to advertise without being discriminated.

At the same time that Z106.7 was doing remotes at The Electric Company, Mix was doing remotes at The Saint...so yeah, big up's to both stations...but this has been going on a while...

I don't know the exact dollar figures and ratings numbers, but wasn't it only a few years ago when San Anotnio was pretty much owned by the old KTFM's Drex Morning Show, who featured Miss Ree and her cast of crossdressers and gay hairdresser? And of course Drex, it was anyones guess what his orientation was but he certainly did no avoid gay/bi inuendo in his conversations.

I hardly think this is an issue in San Antonio.

Very true! San Antonio has been pretty open to this for a long while now
