Gayle Bass "Right this Minute" New Show

Just posted this over on the Phoenix Radio Info Message Board, news regarding Gayle Bass and a new show she will be starring in called "Right this Minute".

Gayle Bass, has just announced on Jay Lawrence Show that she will be part of a new show called "Right this Minute". She will be leaving Channel 3 and moving over to Channel 15 to part of the Scripps Family. This will be a new nationally syndicated show. She will also be part-time on KTAR starting Monday July 18th, no longer full time. I am curious and excited to see this new show with Gayle Bass.

Has anybody watched this show yet? One week in... seems they're still finding what works. Some is good, some needs improvement. Seems they don't use Gayle enough. Thoughts??

When is this show done live (or fed out) each day? The earliest time slot I could find
(not counting overnight airings) is 8 AM ET, so is the show done at or before 5 AM PT,
or are some stations running "yesterday's" show?

I caught part of the show the other day. I did not think it was all that great. Not sure if they were trying to copy the success of NOW@9 but the show just ain't that great to me. This is something that I observed about the show, if it taped in advance, which I highly suspect it is, why does the quality of the picture look so poor to me?

Charlie.

Hopefully, we will get to know more about "Right This Minute". Because of Gayle and Nick Calderon (formerly of 12 News), I suspect that it is at least partially taped here in Phoenix. But a number of stations throughout the country are carrying it. For example, my understanding is that all of the Scripps stations are showing it.

If it fails, I suspect that the locally-produced "Now@xx" may expand back to a full hour.

My quick take watching a few minutes is it seems very similar to TMZ without the celeb topics. Then I read where former TMZ Exec. Producer Lisa Hudson has joined the program.

I also saw something about the Cronkite School of Broadcasting at ASU and I think that is where they film this show.

RTM's "imaging" and graphics are a throwback to mid-'90s KTVK, which is no surprise since most of the behind-the-scenes people behind it were former MAC America-era KTVK execs. I read somewhere that Sony Pictures Television is handling the distribution of the show, although it has only cleared the stations of Scripps, Cox, and Raycom. Some markets have cleared it in decent daytime slots (KNXV, as well as the Cox stations in San Francisco and Seattle come to mind), but a lot of the clearances appear to be late night or subchannel/second station in duopoly situations. Raycom seems to be focused on clearing its "America Now" strip outside of their markets instead of clearing RTM in respectful time slots.

As for the picture quality, it may just be trying to produce a daily program from ASU on a limited budget?

I finally got to watch "Right This Minute" this morning -- or at least I tried to watch it this morning. I made it through about 8 minutes and I couldn't take it anymore. Are they trying to do some cheap version of "TMZ" meets "Now@9" filmed in an ASU classroom?!? While I'm a Gayle and Nick fan, this show looks like something that a station might use as a late-night filler at 1am.

As for ABC15, Now@9 was much, much better.

Despite its flaws, "RTM" is still the best thing on any of the local stations at 11am (that's not saying much, though, up against the unnecessary fourth hour of "Today," a soap opera, and one of the worst--if not the worst--court shows on TV).

Good thing there are plenty of viewing options on cable!

Finally had a chance to watch RTM. Overall, it's okay. Fast paced. Some interesting stories.

No doubt that Beth Troutman is the star. She easily gets the most face time, probably twice as much as the other anchors.

Another thing I noticed is that there were two different sets of wardrobe during one episode. I guess it was taped between two days and edited as one episode.
