GE / RCA superadio update

Opened up the first of 6 new RCA rebranded Superadio III's tonight, I wanted to see how it stacked up against the 2 GE Superadio II's I have at home.

Three areas of major improvement over the II

AM fidelity
AM sesitivity
Improved audio amplifier section and possibility a better speaker

One feature that the III seems a bit deficient is FM selectivity, I will compare FM sensitivity next

I also have a GE branded Superadio III bought about 18 months ago, it will be interesting to do a side by side comparison to see if it was just the name that was changed.

I am hoping that maybe one or two of the other five will have better FM selectivity
and I just opend the worst of the shipment first.

I have an update as well - the Toshiba 9V to 15V DC-DC converter has been discontinued with no replacement. So I don't see how RCA can continue to produce SR-3's without a redesign of some sort.

I have a fix for FM selectivity - change out the ceramic filter. I can do first adjacent reception very well and get a sensitivity boost as well.

You are extremely lucky if you got some without the defective tuning pot (that causes instability). I put a tuning pot from an old SR-3 into a brand new RCA that had bad instability issues, cleared it right up. Unfortunately that SR-3 board also had the noise issue but I have a fix for that as well - I change the bias on a transistor. So I made an RCA into a heck of a good radio from junk.
