GEENA & FRANKIE V ON CHANNEL 933: MON. 11/8/10

What a mess. But this is exactly what you should expect from a company that is top heavy with managers, and has next to no on-air bodies in the building.

So is AJ's show now going to be one person smaller from now on or are they looking for someone else to take over for Geena after next Monday?

KHTS isn't the only station dropping JohnJay & Rich: KPTT/Denver is also dropping the show. Form the way it looks, it appears that Clear Channel is trying to localize their stations.

That's being "kind" saying CC is localizing. Have you listened to JohnJay & Rich? It's perfect for a market like Tuscon but it never quite got the traction* in other markets like San Diego or Denver.
(*traction=the show is not very good.)

I remember Mat Diablo would talk shit on them in the little time they were both on at the same time, especially when they came down to San Diego for one of their affiliate visits.

Thank goodness, I knew the show wouldn't even work in SD. If you noticed majority of their callers were still from AZ. Never liked to two.

Mornings will finally be listenable again ;D

San Diego is way too good of a market to be airing syndicated shows. If John Jay and rich had relocated here, that would've been a different story but taking an Arizona show and relaying it in Southern California is a slap in the face to loyal San Diego listeners, IMHO.

I mean it's SoCal! We're kinda a big deal. ;)

Remember they brought in the CC GM from Arizona and as with so many radio managers moving up to larger markets, they want to provide jobs for cronies. Heck, look at what Randy Michaels did when he got the totally undeserved job of running the Tribune Corp: he moved all sorts of old buds into jobs they had no business doing.

Congratulations to Frankie V he is a great guy, he has paid his dues, and he has alot of creativity and talent....If CC takes the gloves off and lets him be himself the show will be awesome!!! Since Jimmy Steele is the OM there now I am sure that the show will be great! Jimmie is one of the last CC programmers that actually is a "broadcaster"! If CC lets Jimmy do what he needs to do then CC San Diego will be a force to be reconed with again! Hey Jimmy get rid of KUSS as modern country! Go Classic Country, so you can get some actual ratings!

Classic Country would be so cool!!! That would get me away from KGB for sure

I just discovered Outlaw Country on XM, stuff by real men who'd never appear on the Miley Cyrus show.

There are two "great" classic country stations in the US; WSM (the home of the longest running show in the history of broadcasting), and KKUS. KKUS has a mid-day guy, Tom Perryman who has more country history than anyone else alive. Listen to them then look at the ratings for KKUS. Classic Country if done right can give KSON a run for its money, but playing the same stale 100-200 songs wont work. With Classic county it is all about variety, and not setting the audio processing like 933 (where your ears are bleeding).

I could see Classic Country working over here in cow country, and in fact it does. But San Diego? I'm not sure if advertisers would be energized by Classic Country artists. Isn't that the same problem that Adult Standards, Light Jazz and Classical formats have had? They've all had great ratings, but couldn't bring in the ad $$$. Or so I thought?

you know what I can relate with both sides of the spectrum. Ive don close work with these shows and they both a lot of talent but at the end of the day no amount of advertising money can win a listener over. It really jsut comes down to the fact that SD works a lot different than PHX. Frankie is really talented but so are JJR and they both deserve great things.

The local show should always win. And props to JJR...I was waiting for a campaign (TV and outdoor maybe) to promote their show on Channel 933 and don't think it ever came to fruition. At least I don't think there was one.

Kinda boring actually. I really like both Frankie and Geena but the few times I've actually heard talking (and not just music and teases for upcoming giveaways) it's a little lackluster. I thing there either needs to be a 3rd body joining the show, a producer giving lots of talking points and subject matter, and/or a lot more callers being taken.

I was looking forward to a local show returning to 9-3-3, but the parts I've heard (between 8am and 8:45am) are pretty much like listening to the radio in the afternoon or evening.
