Geico's Cavemen Getting own TV series?

Is finding a way for marketers to beat commercial-zapping DVRs and helping networks to cure the distressed state of TV comedy so simple that a caveman could do it?

Oh jeez... ::) But it sounnds like ABC is invested in backing a pilot...

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/Extra/AreGeicoCavemenReadyForPrimeTime.aspx

Since it is set in Atlanta, I wonder what kind of promotion WSB-TV might do? (For those who are familiar with WSB's news, I suspect John Pruitt and Monica Kaufman Pearson might be lucky enough to escape having to don caveman outfits and do the news).

The last show to be set in Atlanta was a Fox drama this season, and WAGA (Fox O&O) did some promotion. The last series before that was "Designing Women".

Any indication of whether it will be sponsored by Geico? If that happens you might not be able to when they go into ads, perhaps like was done in old 50's TV shows. ;D

well if ABC shows it on one of those nights when WSB pre-empts the network we may not even see it. Maybe they could put Clark howard in a loin cloth (or Boortz he's a neanderthal)...LOL

The skinny: ABC has ordered a pilot, featuring the three cavemen. No director, no producer, no studios, no script and no actors as of 3/17. As most know, each network orderes pilots every year. very few ever make it, even to production, much less to air.

GEICO itself will have nothing to do with the program, however its corporate owner Berkshire-Hathaway has licensed the characters for use and will recieve royalties.

Two of the three cavemen have their own website, which at this time has nothing to do with the tv show:

www.cavemanscrib.com

The commercials are offensive enough, since they encourage bigotry toward minority cultural and ethnic groups. I hate to think what the series will be like.....

Personally, it's too bad Phil Hartman's dead -- I wonder what "Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer" would've been like as a regular series, instead of a mere series of SNL sketches.

Will the CapitalOne Barbarians get their own show next?
If they did, whatever network it aired on would kick ass if they ever revived "Battle Of The Network Stars"!

I'll repeat something I put on the George Lopez
thread re the "Caveman" show. If they show the
locals as Southern stereotypes and the cavemen
as the intelligent ones, then I hope WSB does
pre-empt it. If they show Atlanta as the hip,
thriving city that it is, with plenty of educated,
upscale people, I can probably live with the show
(and maybe the people in Atlanta can, too). As
it is, I don't even like the commercials.

BTW, has everyone forgotten that "Matlock" also
took place in Atlanta and aired there first on WXIA,
then on WSB? Of course, Andy Griffith gives Southerners
a good name with the common-sense characters he
usually plays in series (although I like him better as a
bad guy in some TV-movies he's done). And "In The
Heat Of The Night" was filmed in nearby Covington, GA,
and showed Carroll O'Connor's true political side (definitely
NOT Archie Bunker).

A closer look (?)

How did this become about hatred for the South? Where did that even have to do with this?

Could it be that this show will air on ABC, then be dumped on Comedy central after only a short time?

Or is the show going to be too awful to even air there?
I look forward to giving the show a chance on ABC...it'll be interesting to see the end result.
